In the wake of the March 30th killing of an 18-year-old teenager on an MBTA route 23 bus in broad daylight, the Authority has approved a $1.4 million contract to equip the 155 New Flyer D40LF buses currently being delivered with security cameras. Nine D40's which were delivered with prototype camera systems (#0601-0609) have been temporarily transferred to the Cabot garage (a 100% CNG facility) and are assigned to routes 15, 22, 23, 28, 44 and 45, which operate through some of the highest crime areas.
A poster on another board also stated that Cabot's own NABI CNG buses #2201-2204 also have security cameras, although I haven't seen this confirmed by any other source.

This is long, long overdue given the problems the MBTA has had in their highest crime areas. They should have been talking about this back when the NABI's/Neoplans were on order, not now. |
