Here's a REAL HOOT of a "bus skit" (c.1970) from "HEE HAW"........

Grandpa Jones sees Roy hurrying towards him, carrying a battered suitcase.

Grandpa:

"Dang, Roy, you sure are in a gol-dang hurry!

Roy:

"I gotta catch a bus, Grandpa!"

(we now here a bus horn; Roy Jumps up, and catches a tin friction GREYHOUND [ a 4104, of which I have several!] with both hands (the toy bus was pitched to Roy by an off-camera stage hand)

Roy: (now carrying the toy bus ans the suitcase)

"See ya next week, Grandpa! I'm off to Nashville!!)

Grandpa: (as Roy dashes off the set:

"Well, now, that's sure what I call service!" Very Happy

Speaking of Nashville...............

Back in the heyday of "The Hound", was there a direct route between New York and Nashville, or was a change of buses required at some point?, en route?

I am not sure, not having quick access to period timetables, but from memory, I believe you had to change at least once on GL...either Washington or Columbus, depending on your routing.

Trailways did have a few thru buses serving those points...
They ran between New York and Dallas, via Washington, Roanoke, Bristol, Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock, and Texarkana...

Again, I thank you for providing me with interesting and historical info; I, also, was leaning towards a change of buses on GREYHOUND, traveling from NYC to Nashville.

Also, apprecite the TRAILWAYS info............. Wink

Hope you can help out, here.............

The following is one of the RARE times a bus-related memory gets a bit fuzzy fo me.

Back around 1984, I took a half-day (Friday) from work to join my family, who had left earlier for a dude ranch at Kerhonkson, NY.

I remember taking a bus (an MCI) from the PABT, then, about an hour later, transferring to another bus at an upstate station, to complete the trip.

What compnies would these buses have operated by?

Could "SHORTLINE" have been one gf them?

Hope you can jog my memory on this one.......

Do you recall any of the stops?

Most likely, you rode a Short Line bus up Route 17 to Middletown, and transferred to another Short Line from there to Kerhonkson up Route 209 thru Wurtsboro and Ellenville. That bus would end in Kingston.

There is a chance you might have taken Adirondack or Pine Hill Trailways to Kingston, and then transferred to Short Line, and rode southwest on 209 to Kerhonkson.

But most likely, Short Line all the way...

Thanks to your input, I believe now that the first scenario you gave (via Short Line) was the one I used; I DO now recall it was Middletown where I transferred to the bus for Kerhonkson)

Should have taken a few photos(!!);; anyway, THANK YOU again for jogging my ymemory! Very Happy

Apparently so, according to this article (really more like a press release, as is typical of this trade publication)...
