Like the GRUMMAN in the foreground, the soaring Twin Towrers themselves are now but memories.....how much we all took for granted......

Not just them: the white type on black background street signs, too, in all caps, replaced by white/green "Ewe and El-See." |

W.B.:
I think we all tend to forget just how much of New York's "streetscape" has changed/disappeared during the past 24 years...........

Twenty-fiveyears......
Tomorrow, it will be 25 years since 9/11.....and we are stilllosingsoulstoday, even after a quartewr-century.
The city, the country, and the world....forever changed on thatf horrific day, a day that started with so much bright sunshine.
None of us will ever be what we were, prior to that day.
Indeed, America lost what little innocence it then still retained......let us never forget........

And that's another thing . . . who'd've thought those "Brightliners," however altered in their appearance after "GOH," would've outlived the Twin Towers? Even some of the last "SMEE's" on the "Eye-Are-Tee" ran for a few years after that day of infamy. |

Good points; an d, of course, the "Isle of Staten" was still served by the faithful "ME-2s"("R-44s")
And, after 9/11, the ST Ferry "temporarily" stopped carrying vehicles; today, none of the boats have vehicle-carrying capacity.....

Wasn't it in that year that the "Fordy-Ems" were retired? The "Fordy-Toos" outlasted them by nearly 11 years. |

The GRUMMAN, like the Twin Towers (seen here in 1981) now only exist in photos and memories............
This scene is truly timeless....

Notice the "Toity-Ates" behind the Triplexes in that shot . . . this was evidently pre-1980, that pic was taken . . . |

W.B.:
I would agree with you, regarding about when the photo was taken.
Though a few sets of the fearsome "Ds" survive, the "Toity Ates" have not seen revenue "soivice" in many a year.....like the iconic Twin Towers themselves, the yare now but a page in history..........
