So hard to believe that the legendary, talented, lovely, "down home country girl" Dolly Parton is now longer with us.
She indeed was a rare and beautiful soul,one who leaves behind so many cherished songs and somany cherished memories.
In her exhaustive memoirs ("DOLLY"), she has written about taking the bus from Sieverville (Tennessee) to Knoxville (late 1950s/early 1960s) when she was starting her career, singing on a Knoxville radio station.
She also rode the bus to Nashville.
The day after she graduated high school (1964) she boarded a GREYHOUND bus to travel to Nashville, looking towards future stardom.
On a special edition of "20/20" giving Barbara Walters a tour of her new tour bus, a GMC "Buffalo", custom-fitted for a hectic "life on the road", back in 1977
Yes, the late Dolly was indeed a "Buffalo" gal! on ABC earlier, I watcheda clipfrom 1977,showing Dolly

Also:
Dolly's last tour bus (retired in 2022) now resides at her "Dolywood" theme park, and is available to her fans for overnight stays.
The 45-foot coach iis just as Dolly left it, indeed a reat for all her loyal fans.
The coach racked up an impressive 360.000 miles before retirement......

| Sorry to hear of Dolly's passing. She was someone who never grew old and we expected her to be here forever. First saw her on the Porter Waggoner show in the '60's. My late wife and I spent part of our honeymoon at Dollywood in the '80's. Nice to know that she, too, was a bus-rider. |

I got to within 10 minutes of "Dollywood" back in 1990, but, a downpour closed down the park while my buddy (from work) and I were on a connecting "trolley" (we were on a DOMENICO bus tour; it rained akmost the ENTIRE week!)
I truly regret beiing so close to "Dollywood", and not getting to visit (we stayed in Gatlinburg at the Edgewater Hotel)
Dolly never outgrew her endearing "little girl" stage; everything interested her, everything fascinated her, and she shared so much of what she had with others, especially the less;fortunate, bever forgetting her humble roots,inlike most celebrities.
A loving, giving philanthropist, for sure!
I've always loved Dolly and her songs; she was so much a part of all of us, America's own "down home country girl".
The vast void she left can never be filled.
Both Dolly and her iconic mentor Porter were so much of the days when country music was indeed that; so much talent and originality!
When Dolly was just starting out, she'd often stayed with her aunt and uncle in Knoxville; she would ride a city bus to the recording studio, getting off near what local folks called "The Viaduct", near a coffee plant that perfumed the air.
Back in Dolly's day, Old Looks were indeed as commonplace as cracks in the sidewalk; various other makes of transits could also be found running "down south".
Don't forget, Atlanta was was still running trolleybuses (streamlined coaches built by ST. LOUIS) until 1963..............

.....in this topic, mention should be made of "TENNESSEE COACH LINES" ; this company remained independent for many years.
It boasted a strategic route system, , and had through services connecting with both GREYHOUND and TRAILWAYS.
As late as the 1960s, they were still operating beefy 1946 vintage (the same year Dolly was born!) "PDA-3703s"................
