Looks like a pretty rough "nabe", one not all that conducive to taking too many photos of buses............ Sad

Gun Hill Road, 1973..........

What "stoa" routes then served this station?

What routes serve it today?

What a shame. That was an interesting line. At least there are a lot of photos of what once was.

According to the Motor Coach Age issue on Surface Transportation their Bronx route Bx15 was labeled Gun Hill Road. It was started on September 1933.

When MaBSTOA took over it was the same bus route.

The Motor Coach Age issue dealing with the first ten years of MaBSTOA has the following information:

The route was based at Coliseum Depot and the following buses were assigned. Flxible numbers 4664-4727, TDH-5303 numbers 3352-3356, 3358-3433, 6653-6700, 6778-6795 with batwings, 6898-6900 with batwings. As well as 8304-8307 with batwings and air conditioning.

Other routes might have serviced Gun Hill Road but for sure route 15 was specifically labeled as such. On February 19, 1984 it was renamed route Bx28.

Other current routes include Bx38, Bx39, Bx41,

Ctberider:

Agreed,

The "Toid Aven-uh" El was indeed the most storied of the Manhattan Els; ;the last of the ancient MUDC cars made their final runs with the closure of the El in Manhattan.

Odd that the Bronx section of the El lasted nearly 20 years longer, not closing until1 973.............

Jere are several sobering photos from 1970, showing a group of forlorn "Kramdens" (TDH-5106) awaiting their last trip to the scrapyard at the Colesium depot.Crying or Very sad

These handsome, distinctive buses (not one pf which was preserved) were retired far too early...... Sad
