When the late Mr. Sterling began calling for the Yankees in 1989................

SMEEs were stil ridin' the rails in great numbers (and RFWs still aboiuded); the MTA'a bus fleet was all dominated by the classic RTS, Fishbowls, and "Dangerfields"

AMTRAK still served GCT.

The SIRT's fleet was 100% "ME-2s" ("R-44s"); traditional block signals still governed the subways.

The SI Ferry fleet still boasted the handsome 1965 "KENNEDY"-class diesels.

All PATH rolling stock had RFWs; McAdoo-era block signals were still in use.

The "Amazins" were still playing at Shea Stadium, and the "7" was still all former "Bluebopids".

Yeah, ut was all so different, back then............

It should be noted that Mr. Sterling retired BEFORE the "Fordy-Fours" were replaced with the R-211S ("Staten Island Rattlers").

Oh, the Mets won, but so - to quote the dear departed Mr. Sterling - did "THEEEEEE . . . Yankees!"

And at "da Garden," the "Ka-nicker-bockers" made mince meat of Philly in the second round of the "En-Bee-Yay" playoffs. Evidently by that, the animated "Globetrotters" were once again able to make it through.

W.B.:

Seems that the aniimated Globetrotters are MORE than going the "whole nine yards", as of late, seeing how the "Kan-ikker-bokers" have been burning up the court! Wink

[Recall, now, that one of the twin-stack steam ferries in the SI Ferry's "DOMGAN HILLS" class (retired 1965) was the "KNICKERBOCKER"]

As for the late, legendary Mr. Sterling, he was indeed as much a part of the Yankees as was the original "House That Ruth Built"......................

W.N.:

Exactly!

Talk about a "change of pace"! Wink

Maybe all "da snow" will bring some much-needed good luck to "Mr. Met's" in-dire-need-of-a-winning-streak boys from Queens........let's hope.... Wink

"Noo Yawk" baseball "nooze" for Wednesday (late edition).....

Well, as the "Amazins'" CLOBBERED the Rockies, and the "Kan-ikker-bockers" also won last evening, the "YINOS" (aka "Boulevardiers From Da Bronx") were the ONLY "Noo Yawk" team to lose......I dom't think that the "AYF" brigade are all that happy, as I type....... Rolling Eyes

Mets fans, however, given the whole history, are a far more humble and modest bunch than the "AYF's," thus aren't rubbing it in as opposed to the other way around whenever the "Boulevardiers from da Bronx" club 'em.

W.B.:

Agreed, 100%!

With the exception of my late co-worker/best friend,Jim, (and possibly one or two others) the majority of Yankees fans I worked with had that distinct, arrogant, superior, imperious air over Mts fans.

I tell the truth when I say that most Mets fans I knew were pretty much "closeted"; if the Mets really hit a rough patch, and got whupped by "Da Boulvardiers From Da Bronx) one friend of mine wopuld actually call out sick for a days.......100% fact.......so much for "good sportsmanship"........... Sad

So the "Boulevardiers from da Bronx" once again crushed their opponents, once more swelling "AYF" egos. Meanwhile, cross your fingers that the Mets are able to win again today, as they are currently leading out in Colorado.

Looks like the "Amazins" are gettiing hammered this afternoon. Sad

As for the "Boulevardiers From Da Bronx), they need another win like MTA and PATH riders need another fare hike. Sad

Back to normal, I guess.......... Sad

Obviously, A LOT happened since I checked. But, as you said, the "Boulevardiers" are a lot like those aforesaid transit agencies in question . . . nothing is ever enough, they want more, more, more . . .
