AWESOME selection of CLASSICS......REAL buses, indeed.....THANK YOU for posting! Wink

While I DO remember sometimes seeing these buses as a lad, 60-odd years back, these are not the buses I was referring to.

The buses I was referring to were operated by "TRACKLESS TRANSIT" (MOUNTAIN COACHES); these buses ran on the now-defunct #144 from Penn Station, Newark, to the old Caldwell loop.

Mom and I rode the# 144 often (1971-1974) for shopping and other trips; I rode the #144 often into Newark often, to railfan the City Subway, back in the PCC days.

From 1974 until 1975, I used the #144 as part of my daily commute, during my senior year of high school in West Orange, boarding at Penn Station, Newark, and getting off at Pleasantdale (West Orange)

I only remember Fishbowls in use.

Anyway, those pictures were, nonetheless, AWESOME......ALWAYS a pleasure to see vintage photos of classic "Joisey" buses! Very Happy

BTW:

See my topic on the New York board, "NYCTA 4507s to MOUNTAIN COACHES", page 1, (8/30/2019), for further details on "MOUNTAIN COACHES" and its buses.....

Sorry I couldn't help you out with your Mountain View bus photo.

The only thing I found in the internet regarding Trackless Transit was this photo of a GM TDH-3207 serial number 0671. Presently this bus is under restoration by the Friends of New Jersey Heritage Transportation Center.

Appreciate your efforts; thank you!

Weird, you'd think you'd find at least a few photos of the "TRACKLESS TRANSIT" Fishbowls that once ran on the #144 (surprised "MOTOR COACH AGE"had nothing)

Again, appreciate your efforts; that Old Look photo reminded me of the old Jersey City "indies" I grew up with, long ago! Very Happy

Very nice shots, thanks for posting!

I recall Mountain View, back in the late 60's. Together with Short Line (Hudson Transit), they offered an alternate way from Greyhound or Trailways to travel from New York to Albany, via Poughkeepsie. Of course, you'd have to spend half a day to do so, with their all-stops local bus schedules...

Only a bus fan would do that.... Wink Wink Very Happy

You know the type...the same ones that would take Suburban Transit from New York to Trenton, and then Trenton-Philadelphia Coach Co. on to Philly. US-1 almost the whole way... Laughing

traildriver:

Back in July, 1975, I opted not to take part in the town's then-annual 4th of July picnic, due to the fact, that "ORANGE & BLACK" ("Maplewood Equipment Company), for whatever reason, sidelined their Fishbowls that day, and ran ALL SERVICES with the Old Looks then on the roster!

Guess you don't have to guess what I was doing that day! (several round trips to and from the "Port of "Authority"!) Shocked

To quote a most knowledgeable fellow:

"......only a bus fan would do that.....,." Wink

RIGHT ON THE MARK, FOR SURE, MY ASTUTE FRIEND! Very Happy

BTW:

As this was a holiday, there was, of course, no "RIVER ROAD EXPRESS" service.........
