Am curious........

Back in the early NJT era (early/mid-1980s) in addition to the usual Fishbowls, there were also some "exotic" equipment being used on the rush hour "RIVER ROAD EXPRESS", which I frequently commuted on,

I clearly remember (several times) riding on what was either an "MC-7" or an early "MC-8" (this bus/buses had the distinctive slanted window panel)

I've always wondered if NJT purchased said bus/buses from GREYHOUND (I always enjoyed my ride!)....... Wink

Not sure where they came from, but likely from Hausman Bus Sales, which was then the MCI new bus distributor, and also had a large fleet of retired Greyhound buses, which they leased out to many operators.
Even the MTA in NYC leased a bunch of them to help fill in during the Grumman 870 fiasco. They were all painted a simple white scheme.

I don't believe NJT purchased any buses from Greyhound.

Thanks, appreciate (as always) your input!

You are most likely correct, about the second-hand MCI's I rode on the #159, coming from Hausman; I was not aware of this outfit.

Hard to believe that what I am remembering is now over 40 years ago........ Rolling Eyes

Obviously, the buses I mentioned where retired by NJT as soon as they had enough new "Jersey Cruisers" and VOLVO articulateds on hand...

Do you know where the the historic buses from the GREYHOUND museum have ended up?

Wherever they ended up, I certainly hope they will receive a LOT of well-deserved "TLC"! Wink

Appreciate info...........

.........I'm indeed glad that the late Jim Lehrer did not live to see the selling off of the Greyhound Museum's historic bus collection. Sad

Again, certainly hope ALL of those rare and historic coaches finds a good (and WELL DESERVED) home............ Very Happy

"Mystery "GREYHOUND photo, circa-1950........

Earlier, I was looking at a photo I found on the 'net quite awhile ago, and, oddly, for the first time, I noticed the reading on the desrination sign of a GREYHOUND "IC-41".

The sign reads:

"SUN CHIEF LIMITED"

Here, the "S" and the "D" frame the sign reading.

I'm wondering what GREYHOUND division operated this bus (a route on the Southwest? The West?), and about ther route itself.........

That would be mainly SEG, on one of its express pools from the upper midwest to Florida. There was also a Sun King, a Sun Maid, and maybe some more.

Appreciate the info; thank you! Wink

I see I was on the "right track", here; I was pretty positive that this bus was operating on some southwestern route........

You're most welcome!

SEG used their IC-41's on those named trips, which sometimes were extra fare, with reserved seating, and at various times had a hostess aboard, similar to Trailways Five Star service. In 1957, they even had a small fleet of PD-4104 "air-rides" specially made as "Golden Greyhound" service, with two and one, luxury seating, a hostess, and snack service on its Limited schedules. SEG ran the segment from Cincinnati to Jacksonville, then to FGL to Miami. North of Cincinnati was on GLG or PGL or the second CGL.
IIRC, the "Sun King Limited" ran from Toronto to Detroit to Cincinnati, the "Sun Chief Limited" ran from Chicago to Indianapolis to Cincinnati, and the "Sun Maid Limited" ran from Buffalo to Cleveland to Columbus to Cincinnati.

Greyhound did have one of the 'Golden Greyhound' 4104's on a tour of the Eastern states in '57, and even had it on display at the Pennsylvania Greyhound Terminal on 34th Street. Once again, I coaxed my mother to take me to see it, as I had done 3 years earlier to see the then new Scenicruiser. And again, I had to "pay back," by following her all over Macy's or Gimbels afterwards.... Laughing Laughing

MOST interesting, indeed; how complex and "far flung" the intercity bus networks were, so many decades ago! Very Happy

Interesting, also, to learn of the "hostess" service available! (inspiration, I guess, for so many of the vintage tin "Hounds" I have in my collection)....... Wink
