A truly timeless, nostalgic scene from Philadelphia, circa-1955......

I used to go to that underground Penn Center Greyhound Terminal almost every week between 1967 and 1968. It is one of my favorites, and is similar to the former underground Chicago Loop Greyhound Terminal.

Nostalgic, indeed! Thanks for posting!😎

WELCOME BACK....it's been a while since you were seen in these parts! Wink

I would imagine that the classic terminal in that photo is now long gone, and the site now totally unrecognizable........ Sad

Thanks!

Yes, they tore down almost that entire block, and erected a few skyscraper's in its place. About the only trace from the original terminal, is the underground service roadway that is accessed from ramps off 19th Street, between JFK Blvd., and Market Streets. That was how Greyhound buses accessed the underground terminal Greyhound also had an underground service garage and storage yard adjacent to the terminal. I believe the roadway extends as far as 15th Street, and allows off-street truck delivery to the office buildings in the Penn Center complex, as well as trash removal.
Brilliant design, IMHO...

You can Google the location and see what's there now...

Appreciate the additional info, thank you! Wink

Truly sad that classic "kennel" does not exist today; you are QUITE fortunate to have your memories of when it was still in operation! Very Happy

Sobering to thing that so little remains from the glory days of what was once America's most prestigious and famous intercity bus company.......... Sad

This classic 1969 photo, hailing from Chicago, is truly timeless (and, also, one of my favorites!) Wink

Journal Square, 1973 (taken at the former PS Terminal, looking south)........

Look closely in the background (on Sip Avenue) and you'll just be able to glimpse the storefront GREYHOUND depot...........
