This is the extremely oddball 1100 bus, a hybrid electric, doesn't have a destination sign (it just says LIPA on it). Saw it on the N74 in Hicksville tonight. When it acclerated you didn't hear any change in engine sound. Weird.
It was dark and I had no tripod, so the photos aren't that clear. |

That bus is a piece of junk. Even LIB management thinks so. It's out of service more than on the road & cant even finish a day's shift without dying. It's so unreliable that they were actually sending a spare operator with another bus to follow behind it all day in case it breaks down! |

WOW! They actually had another bus follow it?! What a waist of time, money, and bus. The bus that was following that Eldorado could have been in service instead! Well... I know which bus to avoid when I open up my transit system... |

|
|
My uncle, and another friend of mine, both drivers for MTA Long Island Bus have told me that 1100 is off the lot.... gone from the yard.
The company said that although there will be numerous changes by SUMMER 2008, they will not use buses like that because of their reliability factor. Types of buses coming in summer are unknown at this time, but there will definitely be Route extensions, and a possible color change on the buses, and definitely some other types of buses... but as for 1100...... Another one bites the dust for the MTA!!! |

the 1100s were very unreliable. I was told that when they ran on the N73/74 they kept a spare bus in the area because they'd breakdown so much. |
