cyberider:

Mom was born just outside of Wilkes-Barre, and recalls seeing these trains while out from New Jersy, visting relatives.

She also remembered seeing them from the window of a Lackawanna train at Scranton, where the "Laruel Line" station was located, on a level lower than the DL&W's station.

Sad that one of those big electrics were preserved.......

NYO,

I learned a lot about this system from watching this. Maybe it was all in the book but I didn't take the time to try to read it and the quality of the photos in it left much to be desired. Glad your Mom got to see some of this in person. Too bad we didn't!

Cyberider:

Mom better remember the WILKES-BARRE RY streetcars, that ran down the hill from her grandparent's house in Hanover.

She could hear the car clattering along, and hear their gongs.

The two routes that ran along this double-track ROW were "HA" (HANOVER"), and "N" (NANTICOKE")

Sometimes, they rpde the cars "into town" (Wilkes-Barre) or to San Soui Amusement Park.

This was back in the 1920s and early 1930s.............
