Cyberider:
You mentioned in my other topic "Frankenstein buses".....well this one bus, I am sure, MORE than deserves that moniker!!

About 30 years ago, I saw this highly-unorthodox vintage "bus" in New York from my nephew's car as we passed by; I, literally, thought I was SEEING things!!!!!

*"AEROCOACHES" were once used by many intercity and charter companies from the 1940s into the 1960s; a number of TRAILWAYS affiliates also rostered them.
Certain GREYHOUND divisions also once ran AREOCOACHES......... |

Thanks, NYO! Those buses look like a little bit of everything and then some. They take it to a new level! |

Cyberider:
One online article began with the following:
"......this is what happens when you bolt a 1955 Scenicruiser to a 1949 Areocoach......"
With less than a handful of AEROCOACHES surviving today, to so desecrate even ONE is nothing short of a monumental act of vandalism.........

I hate to see an Aerocoach go too but what can we do about it? At least we know where the pieces came from which is more than most will. Nevertheless, an impressive looking build even if I prefer original. Hopefully it will last a long time with credit being given to the original builders. |

While I DO know that at least a few (VERY few) AEROCOACHES still survive, that number is very, very low.
As I had stated earlier, those I DO remember as a young lad were being operated in charter service, and would appear in my area a few times a year, when many charter buses would arrive for different civic/church events.
Sure wish I could have ridden aboard one of these now-rare buses!

Like the distinctive AREOCOACH, the 1940s-era PD/PG types built by YELLOW and GM were once common sites, used in both intercity and charter service.
In this circa-1955 photo, we see a big PG/PD type )with a school bus parked just behind) alongside the old 9th Avenue El, the stub of which served the now long-gone Polo Grounds until the late 1950s...........
