You are always MOST welcome....my pleasure! Wink

You MUST get the excellent books by the late William A. Luke (photo albums):

"YELLOW COACH BUSES"

"FAGEOL & TWIN COACH BUSES"

"BUSES OF ACF"

"FLXIBLE INTERCITY BUSES"

"PREVOST BUSES"

"MACK BUSES"

"GREYHOUND BUSES"

"TRAILWAYS BUSES"

"TROLLEY BUSES"

ALL of these outstanding books feature EXCELLENT photos and information, and make for invaluable research tools!

I've had these books for years, and they STILL come in QUITE handy for research (and simply looking at the photos of REAL buses! Wink

"BIG CITY TRANSPORTATION" (1954)/part of the "BIG CITY" series......

This was a children's book I took out of our library too many times to count as a kid; I finally got a (reasonable!) copy from an online dealer a number of years ago.

Most photos are from New York......BUSES galore!! (Old Looks, MACKS, ACF-BRILLS, you name it!)

Also, PABT photos (as I knew it growing up) showing suburban buses (MACK and ACF-BRILL) that I rememberl QUITE well growing up!

Also, great vintage subway photos, as well as the Staten Island Ferry, etc.......there is a LOT in this book that I grew up with; you would certainly enjoy it! Wink

Among the most "unorthodox" (and interesting!) buses to operate over America's highways, were the customized PDA-3702s operated by MISSOURI PACIFIC TRAILWAYS in 1945.

In the mid-1950s, these buses were rebuilt/modernized, now featuring forward-slanting 4104 style windows, and rebuilt with the same style of front end as was used on the 4103.

As rebuilt, these buses indeed (at least to Your's Truly) indeed looked iike "4104s on steroids"(!!) Shocked

Sadly, none of these distinctive, beefy-looking buses survives today...........Sad

If you are looking for a nicely illustrated history of the intercity bus story, from its beginning in the early 20th century up until around the early 1970's
look for "Over The Road", published by the Motor Bus Society.

To me, that book epitomizes the spirit of the intercity bus industry in the most optimistic of ways, and captures the 'golden era', before the long slow decline set in, to the sorry state it is in today.

Too bad we can't go back to that happier time, except in our memories... Rolling Eyes

I'd be MORE than happy to go back to 1962 and experience ALL that New Jersey's diverse and colorful mass transit had to offer then.....buses, trains, rapid transit, ferries, you name it....oh, man JUST to SEE and EXPERIENCE it all again! Wink

Also.............

"SPARTAN" built smaller, 21-passenger4 buses for only three years (1946-1949)

Th rear ends of these buses were indeed more than inspired by the FLXIBLE "Clipper" (even doiwn to the air scoop at the rear of the roof!) but the overall contors were clearly more angular in design............

The PREVOST intercity coaches of the 1950s were indeed formidable vehicles; they had the appearance of Crown Coaches on steroids(!!) Shocked

Truly IMPRESSIVE and TOUGH-looking buses! Wink

By the 60's, following GM and other US builders, PREVOST began to design buses that were more angular in appearance than the 1950s models.

Ditto WESTERN FLYER; their coaches would not have looked at all out-of-place on American highways...........

Further, regarding "unorthodox" buses..........

Buses that would indeed fit in this category were the passenger/cargo combos once operated by both GREYHOUND and TRAILWAYS; too, recall the uimistakable "BRUCK.

Canadian bis builder WESTERN FLYER also built "Brucks", some of which once operated for "CANADIAN COACHWAYS" of Alberta........
