Check out these classic Old Looks and WHITES from Detroit (now these are REAL buses, the kind I grew up with, ages ago!) Wink

Be sure to read of the Old Look ("MARTIN LINES") that had been GM's experimental "Turbo-Cruiser"! Wink

Wasn't familiar with Martin Lines. My only information on Detroit is the 2 volumes on the streetcars. Nice buses!

Feast your eyes upon these classic Old Looks from "Dee-Troit"! Wink

When I was but a lad (60-odd years back!), Old Looks in my area were as commonplace as cracks in the sidewalk! Very Happy

Note that the last were retired in the early 1970s; here in New Jersey, the very last Old Looks (the few that still remained) did not vanish until 1986.

Old Looks will FOREVER hold a special place in my heart.......... Very Happy

Cyberider:

You are welcome! Wink

You saw the elderly WHITES still running in the 1960s; in my area, when I was growing up, two companies still operated WHITES (the older 798s and the newer 1150s)

"NORTH HUDSON BOULEVARD LINES" operated transits w/rear exit doors.

"INTER-CITY's" were single-door suburbans.

"DC TRANSIT" had a sizeable fleet of WHITES into the 1960s; Scranton was still running them in the early 1970s (these were replaced by ex-PSNJ Old looks!)

MUNI had some still around into the 1970s; Boston's MTA was still running 798s through the 1960s.

The CTA also operated WHITE 798s (and ACF-BRILLS) well into the 1960s.

These were rugged, no-nonsense buses that LOOKED and SOUNDED tough....boy, do I remember! Very Happy

Yep, the Whites were pretty mean looking! I regret that I never had the opportunity to see or ride them.

Cyberider:

Too bad you missed out on experiencing these classic-era "tough guys" firsthand, as I did, growing up!

NHBL's were gone by late 1966; those rostered by "INTER-CITY" were gone not long afterwards, along with the MACKS, ACF-BRILLS, and square-window Old Looks.

Many New Jersey fleets once rostered WHITES (especially the suburban operators)

Indeed, these buses were TOUGH-looking and TOUGH-sounding 9the same held true for the MACKS and the ACF-BRILLS..

Interestingly enough, though "ORANGE & BLACK's (suburban) fleet rostered some MACKS into the 60s, they never operated WHITES, nor ACF-BRILLS.

Their fleet was mostly GM (various models of Old Look suburbans and Fishbowls)

I'll always hold these wonderful old buses close to my heart, just as I have been doing for nearly 70 years!..........

New Orleans, 1945..........

As "N'Awlins" had always been a streetcar city, when the first Old Looks arrived in 1945, they indeed stood out "from the crowd"!

Ten TD-4007s entered service that year; these were the first GM-built buses to operate in the city.

In the early 1950s, 183 5105s were added to the fleet.

Though "NEW ORLEANS PUBLIC SERVICE" had been operating some YELLOWS prior to WW2, most of the buses were WHITE.

Trolleybuses were in service between 1929 and 1967...............
