TOTALLY AGREE!
The famed (long-gone) "BAMBERGERS" department store, in fact, had entrances/exits to the basement level of the store at the City Subway's Broad Street (now Military Park) station; I remember this well, 60-odd years ago!
There were also escalators to and from the PS terminal at this station, which sat fenced off and forgotten for years, before they were removed when the entire station was renovated.
"BAMBERGERS" (known to us locals as "Bam's") also had the attraction of a (believe it or not!) a SUSPENDED MONORAIL TRAIN (kiddie-sized) that ran above one of the upper floors!
Back in the heyday of Newark's big department stores at Broad & Market ("Four Corners") PSNJ did a BOOMING business catering to the busloads and carloads of shoppers that once frequented these now long-gone stores..........

The historic GREYHOUND station at Flagstaff, sadly, like virtually all other classic-era GREYHOUND stations, no longer exists.........

Ironically, Phoenix has had no Amtrak service since 1996. One has to take a bus to either Maricopa or Flagstaff to catch a train. Phoenix is the largest city in AZ but no train service. Check out the train "station" in Maricopa! |

Sad to say, but AMTRAK has much in common with GREYHOUND; over the past few decades, hundreds of stations/depots were either closed altogether (leaving area residents with no intercity rail or bus service at all), OR, if service is STILL provided to a given city or town, now only utilizing a flimsy plastic bus shelter. or converted trailer.......how the mighty hath fallen!

Though only dating back to the 1960s, this "historic" GREYHOUND depot no longer stands, yet another fallen monument to the once-vast GREYHOUND empire...........
