(see previous postings)

At the Brooklyn terminal of the "LL" line in 1972 (Rockaway Parkway), we see two-tone blue Fishbowl #6041, awaiting departure on another "B42" run.

In the background, note the "Arnines" in the yard, that, not all that long before this photo was taken, was home to the hard-workin' "Standards".

Note one train signed for the "KK"............

Just after the turn of the 21st century, the ultra hi-tech NTT trains began arriving, and, would one day, be the sole type of equipment on the "L" line.

Here, in 2002, we see one of the new R-143's in the foreground, with a train of the familiar old R-42's awaiting passengers in the background.

The "16"/"LL"/"L",over the decades. saw a wonderfully diverse variety of equipment operate over its rails; today, those halcyon days are long gone..........

It also looks like pre-1960.

W.B.:

I was thinking the same thing; the photo clearly had that "circa-late 1950's/ early 1960's" look to it.

I always thought it odd seeing a "Thunderbird" on a non-"Eye-En-Dee" line (ditto the "Arnines")

These cars I so strongly associate with the "Eye-En-Dee" that it seemed almost "alien" to see them riding along "Bee-Em-Tee" rails.

Of course, for many years, the "Thunderbirds" were indeed the proud monarchs of the fabled "A" line.......

On this day in September, 1978:

The "Train To The Plane" (JFK Express) made its debut.

(actually, it was more like "take the train to the bus to the plane:!)

35 R-46's (the blue stripe era!) were assigned to this new, premium-fare service, running between 57th St. Manhattan, and Howard Beach.

Patronage in later years, was not all that impressive, to say the least; the "JFK EXPRESS" service was abandoned in 1990.

I well recall the TV and radio commercials for the now long-gone "JFK EXPRESS"; it all seems so long ago now...........
