Back in the 1960's, you could find friction-powered tin-litho "police" buses; in more recent times, I have seen die-cast (approx 1:48 scale) police and sheriff department buses, a few of these with flashing lights and "sirens".

Tin friction military buses were once pretty commonplace, back in the late 50's and 60's, representing all divisions of the armed forces (one of the rarest is a "Scenicruiser" representing the Navy as a "NAVY TRANSPORT OFFICE" (I have a number of vintage tin military buses in my collection)

These are getting harder to find, and have become quite collecticble....

Cannot forget the heroes that have served in our armed forces.

This gutted, rusting, forgotten hulk from the 1940's once proudly served the US ARMY......

This small ARMY bus from the 40's looks as though it had appeared in an episode of"MASH".......

TWIN COACH received a contract for 500 military coaches in 1950.

These were called "convertibles" , and could be converted from a 32-passsenger bus, to an ambulance, or to a cargo truck.

These unique vehicles were built in conjunction with FRUEHAUF, the long-established trailer company.

A number of these "convertibles" also served as Highway Post Offices.

This photo shows the rusting hulk of one of these unique military buses, more than worthy of some sort of preservation.....

London suburban coaches serving US troops......

During WW2, when all suburban GREEN LINE services were abandoned for the duration, many coaches went into military service, either being used as ambulances or US ARMY "Clubmobiles"*......

I have not been to the Transit Museum since 2002, but cannot recall any photos/exhibits on NYPD buses, unless I missed it.

Curious:

Did the Transit Police ever have a bus?

If they did, they may've been reconditioned Old Looks (if early 1970's) or Fishbowls whose service to passengers had ended.

From what I read, those were regular T6H- or T8H-5307A's.

W.B.:

About how many retired Fishbowls/Flexies went to the Transit Police/NYPD after retirement?

They could not have been all that old when they were retired from revenue service.

The one picture of a "Dangerfield" Flex New Look I found was taken at the Castleton garage (SI); I assumed that such buses would be based at a police garage......

They claimed it was a TDH-4507, but unless it was later in that model's run it looked more to me like a TDH-4509 . . .
