Here's a particularly beautiful trolleybus photo from Hamilton, Ontario, taken in 1974.
The church in the background is particularly impressive.....

A tranquil, postcard-like setting is indeed quite appropriate for this classic New Orleans streetcar.......

This timeless 1972 photo, snapped just outside the PABT, is one of those "Gee, I wish I could back" scenes; note the rows of RED & TAN Fishbowls parked at the rear of the looming Gothic church (alas, that bus lot has since been built over)
A PS/TNJ "Buffalo" stands front and center here, and sharp-eyed GREYHOUND fans, I'm sure, will have no trouble spotting an interesting bus.....

I am fairly certain that the church is a Catholic church with a congregation of Croatian Heritage. The name is Saints Cyril and Methodius [humans, apostles to the Slavs] and St. Raphael [archangel], an odd combination because of the parish history. The parish website is https://www.croatianchurchnewyork.org/homenaslovnica.html

As for the Public Service bus, why does A appear after the number? Is it a later purchase than the Z123 series? |

Joe:
Greatly appreciate your providing the name of the Church in that 1972 photo; I can remember seeing it from the windows of buses entering and leaving the PABT, from the time I was small, and long through my adult life.
Those old "urban Gothic" churches were/are indeed majestic, historic structures that never lose that powerful sense of dignity and heritage.
You are correct about the "A" suffix after the number of the PS/TNJ "Buffalo".
The "Z" series buses which I remember most were the Z300 Fishbowls (transits); I rode them for many years (starting in late 1974), and they were the backbone of the old "#21" line (Hoboken Terminal-Palisades Junction) for many years, based out of the old Union City garage (closed circa-1993).......

This 1972 photo was taken on Kennedy (Hudson) Boulevard, just above Journal Square, in 1972.

The spire towering in the background marks St. John's RC Church; in the early 1960's, before new apartments were erected on a formerly vacant lot (adjacent to the Church itself) a "Living Nativity" was performed at regular intervals, during December,
Mom and I used to take the NHBL #1 from our corner (13th St.) in Union City to see this beautiful scene, when I was quite young.
The "5" placard was also used on the Old Looks, MACKS, and WHITES, back in the 60's, assigned to the JSQ-PABT run.
By the time of this photo was taken in 1972, NHBL was still operating some Old Looks, but the oldest "square window" Old Looks, as well as the WHITES and MACKS, had been gone since sometime around 1967.....
