W.B.:

YOU SAID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy

When I run errands once or twice a week, I only watch the NJT buses (not that many these days, mostly all "run-a-mok" jitney vans, except during rush hours) out of the sheer habit of watching passing buses for over 60 years.

But, believe me, the days of truly enjoyable bus watching (back when we took so much for granted) are, long, long gone.....thankfully, we have our own memories and countless old photos, to help us older guys recall the "Good Old Days"...... Wink

......well, the Amazins have been "Amazin", the past few days.......they won TWO games in a row, Thursday and last evening.......as their season is now coming to a close (let's hope next season is better!) it was quite appropriate that the Mets won their final home game of the season! Wink

So, now, we push the many loses of the season into the background, and concentrate on the Mets victories (and, yes, there were some!), and think about next year..... Very Happy

I guess the old saying is true, after all: "the only things in life certain are death and taxes"; it haad seemed almost dead-certain that the Bombers were on their way to another victory, to further tighten the "wild card" race......

However, this afternoon (Saturday) The Bombers were soundly trounced up in da Bronx, 12/2.

It's gonna get interesting, folks.......

On the flip side, the Amazins have won their last two games, finally snapping (another) losing streak; it was most appropriate that they won last night's game, which was also their last home game of the season.*

Let's hope that the Amazin' Mets can pull of another win in Atlanta, this evening..... Wink

*It would seem that our good friend W.B.'s "baseball seesaw" is still going through its paces.... Wink

Though we've all seen this 1973 photo a number of times in the past, it still remains one of my all-time favorite "baseball bus" photos:

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?153959

(courtesy: nycsubway.org)

Here, it's 1973, and Flex #4705 is seen looking quite lonesome outside the fabled "House That Ruth Built".

This "moody" photo sets one to thinking.......

How many of the 1973 Bombers are still with us today?

Teen fans who attended the game back in '73 would now be in their 60's, at least; adults would now be well up in years, if no, sadly, passed on.

Flex #4705, likewise, like the vast majority of its rugged, diesel-driven brothers, has long, long since made that final run to that big bus depot in the Great Beyond.

Back in 1973 (when Your's Truly was a high school junior) 2021 was so far away that most of us could not even comprehend that such a futuristic time would soon enough pounce upon us, like a hungry tiger......

Well, the Mets lost tonight's game, but only by a point (this season, the Mets have lost a number of games by one point, at least, that's what it seems to me); at least, they didn't get clobbered as the Bombers did, this afternoon.

Today was NOT a happy day for any "Noo Yawk" fans; both teams lost. Sad

I'm sure that more than a few "Noo Yawk" fellows are thinking (in a positive way, of course!) of next season.......Wink

Funny . . . the caption says "4705," but the picture shows the bus number as 4697. A Flx nonetheless, but still . . . same difference (and atmosphere).

This was about a year before 7 of its sisters - 4721 thru 4727 - were transferred to the Hudson depot in Manhattan, to serve alongside 62 of its newer brethren that were just delivered (Hudson got all 62 of the 1974 set of Flx's - 7300 thru 7361 - built for MaBSTOA).

And to think by year's end, Yankee Stadium #1(a) would go the way of that green paint scheme. (I think of the rebuilt stadium that served from 1976 to 2008 as #1(b).)

W.B.:

When you go to Rome, the famed Coliseum still stands, after some 1,000-odd years; yet, Yankee Stadium, only dating from the early 1920's, is but a memory.

Shea Stadium, the fabled home to the Amazin' Mets, likewise, is now history, even though it only dated back to 1964.

"Noo Yawk" STILL hasn't learned its lesson from the wanton destruction of the late, great, Pennsylvania Station in the 1960's, which, in turn, was replaced by an insipid underground station (itself "improved" several times over the decades) that is more atkin to a nondescript shopping mall, thaan a major rail hub serving a huge city (at least the new Monyihan Train Hall attempts to bring back a hunt of the lofty elegance of the old Penn..........some lessons are, sadly, NEVER learned...... Sad

That last link is of the current iteration. For the "classic" version . . .

Big difference.

W.B.:

Thanks! Wink

Years back, I've thought of what things might be like today, had both the ORIGINAL Yankee Stadium and Shea had been granted LANDMARK status; probably nothing would have changed, anyway, as I've have seen far too many examples of "landmark" structures being destroyed in the end.

One's it's gone, it's gone, and there is simply no bringing back a truly HISTORIC structure......... Sad

Well, in what might be a fitting end to the season, the Mets got hammered earlier, and are now "out" until the next season (at least, the Bombers JUST eked out a win)

Our old Muppet pal Kermit used to sing about how it wasn't easy being green; well, I am sure that many guys these days are themselves saying ".....it ain't easy being a Mets fan.....' Razz

Oh, well, at least we can hope for a more victorious 2022 season for the Amazins..... Wink

........well, the Bombers were overtaken by Boston tonight, and, like the Amazins, their season is now over.

These days, IMHO, I don't think that there are all that many happy "home team" fans in the "Noo Yawk" area.....well, of course, there's always NEXT season, for both the Yankees and the Mets...... Wink
