I know Bx-29 was assigned to West Farms depot; one 1972 pic of a 1965 Fishbowl had a recycled 1963 front roll sign. M2 and M10 by then were both assigned out of 146th Street, and M3 at 132nd Street.

What route did #4876 run on? That might be a clue as to which depot it was stored in.

W.B.:

As I had said earlier, the destination sign #4876 was blurred, and could not be read; all I knew for sure was that the right-hand side of the roller curtain had a red background......

"X BUS" demo, seen at Junction Boulevard & 62nd, 1975; I'm wondering if this experimental was ever tested on any of the MaBSTOA routes.......

The "X BUS" demo seen in the photo posted in my previous message got me to thinking of the first RTS buses to be assigned to MaBSTOA routes:

What (MaBSTOA) routes first received the RTS?

What depot(s) were the first batch of RTS coaches assigned to?

Here's a few early-era RTS MaBSTOA views; how we all took such now-timeless scenes for granted, back in the day......

Eons prior to the formation of MaBSTOA, there was TARS; this handsome deck-roof convertible* is seen here (Fordham Rd/Southern Boulevard) sporting the once-commonplace maximum traction trucks......

Here's a thought: the MONY Building on Broadway between 55th and 56th Streets (originally "MUTUAL LIFE" when opened in 1950) went up after TARS streetcars gave way to Surface buses on Broadway. Rare is a picture of the building in its first decade showing time and temperature readings on the top with the "Weather Star" above it (but not otherwise). I've seen about two tops where they're shown full, about three or four more taken atop the then-Times Tower where the time readings are obscured by the steel beams holding up the Chevrolet sign on the old Studebaker building at 48th and Broadway.

W.B.:

Most interesting trivia; this is something I always found to be quite intriguing!

Back in the TARS days, the B&O had a train connection bus station at Columbus Circle; this facility did not close until 1958, when the B&O (via the CRRNJ to Jersey City), and so lasted well into the SURFACE era.

I've also seen old footage showing B&O buses heading to the CNJ's Liberty St. ferry terminal, with SURFACE buses passing by.....

Here's one of the more modern TARS cars at Columbus Circle; look carefully, and you can see part of the word "STATION" through one of the front windows, marking the location of the B&O's bus ticket office/station........

Earlier, I'd posted a link to a 1975 photo of the "X BUS", and inquired if it had also operated on any MABSTOA routes, during its time in New York.

This made me think of TARS; given Mayor LaGuardia's vehement dislike of streetcars (and elevateds) it is not surprising that no PCC demo ever operated on TARS rails.

Had TARS ever taken delivery of PCC's, it would have been the only city in the country (besides Washington DC) to operate PCC's on conduit trackage......

Bx19 replaced the 207th Street crosstown from Broadway to Southern Blvd, but later Bx12 was lengthened west to Broadway and Bx19 abolished.
