This classic, smart-looking GREYHOUND 4104 "bygone America" scene (Pittsburgh) dates to 1956, going by the then-new Jerry Lewis-Dean Martin romp playing at the "TERMINAL" movie house........... Wink

The Terminal theater is at 69th and Market Street in Upper Darby...the bus is headed to Pittsburgh.

Recalling the long-ago days when GREYHOUND's 4106s and streetcars were still commonplace sights in Pittsburgh.............

Here's a truly nostalgic "Chicagoland" photo, circa-1970, with a SCENICRUISER enjoying a few moments of rest, basking in the sunshine.

In the background, note also the stylish 1960s-era sign for the CTA's "SKOKIE SWIFT", which opened in 1964, utilizing a section of former CNS&M row, abandoned in early 1963.

Also, note the classic Greyhound "BUS" sign..........

The third edition of Pittsburgh's Greyhound Terminal (the 1959 version at the bottom), is the one that I recall the most. Went thru there many times in the late '60's and '70's. The current (4th) is the same place, with an enlarged parking garage above it and a new facade, and modernized (IMHO inferior) interior...

Here's a shot I found of the interior, sometime in the '70's...

It was an incredibly busy, vibrant transportation hub, with Post House Cafeteria, snack bar, gift shop, cocktail lounge, travel bureau, Traveler's Aid service, ticket office, information booth, shoe shine stand, etc....served Greyhound, Blue & White, Edwards Lakes to Sea, Lincoln Coach, 88 Transit, Lake Shore System, Somerset Bus Co., Grove City Bus Co, Butler Motor Transit, and perhaps more...

Thanks for posting!

This photo looks to be from about 1970, going by the styles seen.

Anyway, did you notice that there are echoes of our old "Port-of-Authority"?; indeed, this concourse had a "familiar" look to it, that instantly had me recalling our fabled "Port", pre-1980s "improvements".

Too bad the original P'burgh (1950s) station had to be "upgraded"........

NYO--
Yes...I did see a certain familiarality with the "old" PABT...the recessed florescent ceiling lighting, the tile walls, although while the Port was of a pale yellow color, Pittsburgh was in a slightly more modern avocado color, reflecting its 9 year newer building...also, the wall pay phones, the coin locker's, etc...

I still so clearly recall being in the main concourse of the old "Port-of-Authority", facing the 8th Avenue doors, and there being a huge newsstand in the center, and the subway entrances (with the 8th Avenue exits in between) flanking each side of the concourse (recall the sleek chrome token booths?)

Ahhh, where has it all gone.........

Check out this page (great photos!) showcasing the old GREYHOUND station at Cleveland (the main concourse, at least to Your's Truly, easily recalls the original (now gone) 1953 Newark Airport.

Yup, indeed, GREYHOUND was once a kingdom of many handsome palaces......... Very Happy

Here's an excellent page (along with great photos!) of the historic Art-Deco GREYHOUND station in DC; be sure to check out the bustling hubub depicted in the "Christmas 1941" scene (note all the YELLOWS!) and the photo from 1977, showing a "Buffalo" sandwiched in between two MCIs............ Very Happy
