The iconic "0" Series Shinkansen "Bullets" became overnight sensations in Japan, when the debuted in 1964, to much celebration and fanfare.

Their sleek images soon adorned everything from matchbooks to cigarette packs; the manufacturers of tin lithographed toys, indeed, went "gung ho" for a number of years, producing thousands of now-collectible "Bullet"-inspired toys (later, many were also made in plastic)

The distinctive noses of the original power cars suggested a modern airliner; today's SHINKANSEN trainsets, I have to say, are quite bizarre in appearance, more resembling giant mutated duckbill platypuses and/or massive hypodermic syringes! Shocked

The "EUROTUNNEL SHUTTLE", carrying motor vehicles and passengers through the Channel Tunnel.

This operation is, to say the least, quite interesting......

Mention must be made of "TALGO" (a most interesting history on this long-established Spanish company); the newest trainsets clearly were inspired by a platypus(!!) Shocked Shocked

The highly-unorthodox German "Rail Zeppelin" of 1930; note that the nose of this futuristic high-speed rail car bears an uncanny resemblence to many of the ultra-modern, high-speed trainsets of the 21st century! Shocked

Even for the time (1917), the Russian "AEROWAGON"* looked quite ungainly and primitive........

*(this rail car was originally designed to transport Soviet officials)
