"ZUNUM AERO" (based in Washington State), worked on developing a family of mid-sized, hybrid-electric regional airliners, through 2018; planes of this sort might have have played a part in the re-structuring of the regionals, post-pandemic.......

Today, a long and illustrious era for QANTAS ended; their last 747 flew to California (and, also, into retirement).

The plane also, on its final flight, traced the outline of a kangaroo in the sky, as it headed off into retirement.

Hard to believe that the iconic, once-commonplace 747 is now quickly fading into history.......

Yesterday, I heard that production of the BOEING 777 has been pushed back, due to the pandemic causing less demand for larger jets.

IMHO, the larger the airliner, the easier it should be to achieve maximum "social distancing" amongst passengers and crew.....

On this day in 1991, PAN AM ceased operations.

The last flight was made by a BOEING 727-200, between Barbados and Miami.

This was an airline that truly was a celebrated and premier carrier, back in the day.

Hard to believe that, today, it is but a well-remembered "Fallen Flag"........ Sad

....just watched on ABC World News Tonight a very good report on the first flight of a 737 MAX since the type was was grounded many months ago.

The Captain was interviewed upon landing (flight was Miami to JFK); thankfully, it was a safe flight for all.

It is going to be VERY interesting to see what transpires in 2021; currently, one lone airline has brought the 737 back......

Recent news says that the long-grounded 737's are now re-entering service, after a long hiatus.

Also, airline stocks are now rising, as the pandemic FINALLY starts to ease.

Let's hope that this is a continuing trend....... Wink

......one cannot help but wonder if there will ever be a return to the CONCORDE/SST supersonic transport concept, especially given that advanced technology is far greater than it was in 1970.

I still remember all the excitement that prevailed, when the first CONCORDE took to the skies, so many years ago....I still find that SST concept fascinating.......

.......too, what with ever-rising fuel costs (as well as many other factors) I wonder if there will ever be a strong return to the "narrow bodies" of the pre-Jumbo era; recall, that, until the 747, the fuselages of the jets of the 1960's was not much changed from the piston airliers that they themselves replaced.......
