Times Square, May 1976. M10 Eighth Avenue/Central Park West line on southbound run. Only with '10 Broadway' shown on side roll sign - not the route to be shown, in spite of this route, from 1954 to 2009, traveling on SB runs through Broadway between Columbus Circle and Times Square, but rather the obscure, phantom, pull-in, pull-out ex-FACCo route that, in its last years (discontinued 1976), ran between '135 St Only' and '168 St', based out of 132nd Street. But apparently even those operating the ex-NYCO route shown here heading towards 41st Street on Seventh Avenue were confused.

'Course, the '10' that was supposed to be shown was the one above it:

W.B.:
Once again, great photos and highly-detailed route/roller curtain data (it CAN get QUITE confusing, but ALWAYS interesting!)
You, my friend (as I've said many times previously) KNOW your rollsigns and routes......your amount of knowledge on the subject really boggles my mind (but, then again, there ain't too much to boggle in the FIRST place!)

From what I can see, that 'box' is occupied by Jim Jensen and Rolland Smith.

Ah, back when the 'WALK' in 'DONT WALK' signs was green instead of 'Lunar White', and the 'DONT WALK' was red rather than 'Portland Orange' . . .

W.B.:
I REALLY miss those classic "DON'T WALK" signs; they always seemed so "cosmopolitan" and "Noo Yawk-ish", and, to me, always added to the overall excitement that I once thrilled to when I worked in the city.
Today's "pictogram" signs simply do not do it for me at all...it simply just ain't the same.......

As meteorology (like astronomy) has long, long been one of my interests; I still recall "ol' tyme" TV weathermen, like Dr. Frank Field and, also Tex Antoine (with, of course, his ol' "drawing board sidekick", Uncle Weathbee!)
In later years, I used to enjoy watching Frank's son Storm Field do the weather on 9; also, used to enjoy "Mr. G" on PIX11......
As far as bygone newsmen, my folks and I watched Walter Cronkite for many years; I also used to enjoy the unforgettable anchor team of Bill Buetell and Roger Grimsby on "Eyewitness News" (ABC 7), many eons ago.
And, of course, I certainly cannot leave out Mr. Bill Jorgensen of WNEW 5's "10 'O Clock News".........

Here is a rare sign... the Q89 was the former Fifth Avenue Coach route 16, Elmhurst Crosstown... originally based at 76th Street and Northern Blvd. and then under MaBSTOA ownership at 54th Street Depot.
