Be sure to read the section on "INDOOR AIR POLLUTION" (I was reminded of the PABT platforms, once upon a time!!)

The terminal is also served by local buses and light rail trains.

Also, check out the 1930's photo of the outdoor terminal.

The buses looked antique even then! Shocked

Note that the terminal* also has a kosher McDonald's, and, recalling my record-shopping days in "Noo Yawk" long ago, a "TOWER RECORDS"! Wink

"NYO"

*The facility is served by three intercity bus companies:

EGGED

SUPERBUS

......just now thinking that, given the climate, the air/conditioning aboard the buses running into Jerusalem must get one HECK of a workout(!!) Shocked

I would also think that filters would have to be tightly meshed to keep out the dust and road grit commonplace in that locale........

That is an amazing terminal...I visited there during my stop there on my world cruise a few month's ago...not a very nice terminal, but certainly impressive in size and traffic...

As for severe climate operation's...
Anyone recall when Greyhound ran a contract operation for ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia?

They built a customized fleet of MC-5C's, with center exit door, and a 'shade' over the entire roof. I believe they also had a special duty air filtration system for the engine air and the passenger A/C....

traildriver:

Ahhh, so you WERE there at the Jerusalem terminal!

You said it wasn't "very nice", but, I'm sure, the bus operation aspect of it was quite interesting!

I would also think that international tourists/historians who are there to visit Bible sites must also use the buses, for at least part of their journeys.

You mentioned GREYHOUND in your post.......

The following is from "THE GREYHOUND STORY" (Oscar Schisgall):

".........Aramco, for example, sought the company's cooperation in Saudi Arabia. Its delegations sat with Greyhound representatives in round-table session after session. The outcome came with the announcement that 'Greyhound had been selected to be a partner with Aramco and certain Saudi Arabian interests to participate in a substantial bus venture in that country'......."

Also:

".........documents have been signed under which Greyhound's subsidiary, Motor Coach Industries, will build 200 new MC-5 bus for the joint venture......."

There is also a cool photo showing on of the new buses (with that neat center exit door!) rumbling along a desert highway, while two local folk amble by on camels.....talk about the Old World meets the New!

Interesting, too, is that while the bus displays "GREYHOUND" lettering, there is no "running dog". There is some sort of another insignia on the side of the bus, but due to the quality of the photo, I cannot make out what is is.

Also interesting to wonder if just maybe one of those sharp rear-door MCI's survives today.

They used to say: "GREYHOUND runs EVERYWHERE!".....this, certainly, clinches the deal! Wink

"NYO"

BTW:

AWESOME pictures in that link......SUPER-COOL!!! Very Happy

Thanks for sharing! Wink

GREYHOUND in South Korea.........

https://www.nytimes.com/1971/02/28/archives/greyhound-in-south-korea-venture.html

(courtesy. nytimes.com)

* From "GREYHOUND SCENICRUISER" (McNally/Rayman)......

"........in the late 1960's, GREYHOUND's new Far-Eastern joint venture was known as KOREA GREYHOUND. Nearly 40 buses were overhauled in San Francisco, painted in the red-stripe livery, and shipped to Korea. This new overseas fleet included both PD-4104's and PD-4501's......"

NYO--That NYT link did not work...

As for Greyhound getting around...they also had a Netherlands operation from 1964-1968, when they bought a majority interest in an old company...dba "Vavo-Greyhound"
https://www.google.com/search?q=vavo+greyhound&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=8xsJmTe1RzmLDM%253A%252CGTiz3fDj0eaK4M%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kRC5EfzmfPl3ztnAOZ0hefGduVffA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiOscCRpcLkAhVuoFkKHQEeAu8Q9QEwAHoECAYQBA#imgrc=8xsJmTe1RzmLDM:

Then of course the other "Greyhound's" around the world, that had absolutely no relation...such as in Australia....

Shoot! Mad

That link worked for me....oh, well....... Rolling Eyes

Interestingly, GREYHOUND, for a brief time, also operated buses in Nigeria.

(from : "THE GREYHOUND STORY").......

".....now, with the advent of Armour, GREYHOUND's interests were worldwide.........on a corporate trip to Nigeria, a similar arrangement to GREYHOUND bus operations in Korea was attempted. But here, the unexpected happened. Wherever a parked bus was left unwatched overnight, its tires disappeared, its batteries stolen, and anything moveable was taken away......"

".........the thievery was so rampant that, within months, the Nigerian operations had to be abandoned........."

Parts of it were similar...plenty of 'sketchy' character's loitering around, lots of 'shlock' retail stores...seemed more like a discount shopping mall than a bus terminal in some places....

Buses in the Middle East.......

Whether these vehicles or local or inter-city, it would be pretty much a given that said vehicles (operating in the hot, arid, desert regions) must be equipped with hardware not found on American buses.

Overheating, of course, would seem to be an issue; likewise, fueling stops/breakdowns, in more remote areas.

Then, too, there are issues regarding Muslims, Jews, etc., that, I am guessing, are also "part and parcel" of bus operations in that part of the world.

In any event, bus operation in the Middle East is something that is, at least IMHO, not all that well documented; ditto for other areas of the world, especially away from heavily-populated areas.......
