"THE NAIRN WAY"*........

https://archive.aramcoworld.com/issue/198104/the.nairn.way.htm

This is truly an excellent and fascinating history of a long-ago, pioneering operation that I had no idea had ever existed, until just a few minutes ago.

The SAFEWAYS (as well as other buses and vehicles) are also highlighted here.......

Further research netted this rare photo from 1937 depicting a "NAIRN" trailer-bus (note the rear of the "trailer" echoes a Flxible Clipper!)

To say that this a a RARE photo is indeed an understatement! Shocked

traildriver:

The driver would NOT have to worry about "social distancing" between himself and his passengers, THAT'S for certain! Wink

Just imagine driving a BEAST like that, NO power steering, NO a/c, NO pavement (much of the time!).....the driver(s) should have recieved COMBAT PAY!!Shocked

(All Aboard the "Rat Patrol Express"!) Wink

Some interesting vehicle on this page; note the (now-retired) "CAMEL"* trailer-bus that was once commonplace in Havana......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_in_Cuba

*(Most certainly NOT a type of vehicle not at all conducive to "desert" running!) Shocked

Note the 1949 BOMBADIER "B-12"; equip several of these with a powerful A/C system and they just might be able to handle the dunes and shifting sands of the Middle East, carrying paying passengers......

traildriver:

GREAT LINKS!! Wink

Back in the late 1960's, I had an issue of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC which featured an excellent feature on future transportation; there was a photo of a "mobile lounge" (Dulles) that, at the time, really blew my mind.....NEVER saw anything like THAT before!! Shocked Shocked

I often wonder how many airports (here and abroad) used "mobile lounges" as part of their "ground support" fleet........
