In the pouring rain this afternoon, there was a wedding inside a nearby church and two white vehicles outside. One was the limo, maybe a Rolls. The other caught my attention because there was a loud noise of an engine running. It turned out to be a generator rather than an engine. The vehicle was a 30-passenger Freightliner party bus from Legend Luxury Transportation of St. James, Long Island.

Hating the constant air pollution, I phoned the company. The dispatcher said it was a generator, so I hung up. Thinking about it, refrigerated trucks unloading at a supermarket may have to leave generators working. The lunch trucks parked along highways also pollute the entire time they are there. Maybe it is legal in New York State to run a generator but not a hauling engine.

The driver had headlights and interior lighting on. Maybe the generator was needed to keep ice cubes in the liquor box from melting.

Do transit or long-distance buses sometimes have that type of generator?
Thanks.

Generally, no. Those are more commonly seen on recreational vehicles or motorhomes. Sometimes buses that were converted into motorhomes....
