My dad worked here as a mechanic for 28 years from 1942 until he retired in 1970. I remember well the open houses he took me to every year as a kid living in Brooklyn.

So what year was it built? I had assumed 1951, account that magazine featuring it...but I suppose that had nothing to do with it...they just went around covering different operations around the country...?

From my understanding, construction began in 1947 (replacing an old trolley car barn which had been on that block) and opened Dec. 17, 1950.
