|
|
All:
Currently, does NJT own the bus lots around the PABT, or do any other operators rent them, parking their buses with NJT's equipment?
Or are these lots owned by the PA?
Many years ago, I also recall several (long gone companies) laying over their buses there.
Appreciate any input..........thanks!

I believe those, or most of them are owned by the PA, and leased out...especially the ones under the ramps. And other carrier's besides NJT have some. Greyhound is the latest to lease one...between 40th and 41st, just east of Dyer. They even have a lav dump set up. Coach USA has the one west of Dyer (not sure if its Leisure or Rockland)....
Peter Pan has a couple of spots off 10th Av., and Transbridge has a lot off 39th between 9th and 10th...

This is just what I wanted to know....thank you!
While on the subject, check out these nostalgic views (Note the RED & TAN New Looks in the lot behind the church [early 70's]; do buses still use this lot?)

Man, I guess things HAVE indeed changed since my last PABT "visit" (via the #159R, early 2000's, when I retired)
I can't remember a time when buses weren't parked in that lot; man, where have the years gotten to?
I wonder what buses in use then are still in service? (I know NJT's NEOPLAN artics were then replacing the VOLVO artics)
That SUPERCRUISER was indeed a "bonus" in that 1972 photo; sure wish we could go back and time and take some photos (or home movies!)
Thanks again.....always appreciate your input.......

I used to live west of where the brown-and-orange Inter-City Lines buses (largely SDM-5301's) used to be stored: in the middle of the block between Ninth and Tenth Avenues, and between 37th and 38th Streets. There's a 1979 picture somewhere . . .

How well I remember such classic line-ups......NICE picture!
The old ORANGE & BLACK garage (by the late 1970's, "MAPLEWOOD EQUIPMENT COMPANY") was near to where I then lived (via a brisk 10 minute walk) and I well remember the ex-INTER CITY New Looks that were always then on hand, along with the ex-ORANGE & BLACK buses.
I rode them into the city (when I wasn't taking the #21 TNJ to Hoboken and then and PATH tubes into lower Manhattan ) on my commutes, and never liked the new paint they received in later years.
By the late 80's, I remember seeing these classics less and less, as the new MCI's and VOLVO articulateds were rapidly making inroads.......I still miss them today.
I never got around to taking any pictures, but, happily, I still have my memories.............

An ex-INTER-CITY New Look operating on a route once owned by ORANGE & BLACK (1981); leaving this location, a 5-minute walk would bring me right to my doorstep.
Man, to see these vintage buses again on my main drag...............

A DOMENICO New Look this time; as traildriver had previously mentioned, the lot where the RED & TAN buses are parked, an apartment building now sits on the site.
But, way back in 1972, timeless scenes such as this were still commonplace......

Another 1981 vintage scene; rush hour is clearly well along....no buses to be seen in the yards below the ramps!
The roller curtain on that COMMUNITY COACH New Look looks a bit "patched up".......
