Was going from Academy's Hoboken lot back to the Port this morning, and saw this (or the three axle 45 footer), on a flatbed tractor-trailer coming into Hoboken.... http://www.byd.com/news/news-274.html
I never even heard of 'BYD', a Chinese manufacturer until I 'googled' it just now.
Anyone know anymore about this?
I wonder if it was heading to Academy for a demo tour.... |

BYD has been pitching electric buses to many agencies recently. The MTA had a demo about 2 or 3 years ago, and an articulated one was spotted about a month ago. In fact, Los Angeles LACMTA has 5 in service and 20 on order.

So the Chinese are trying to do what the Japanese never have....sell transit buses to North American companies...very interesting. Also surprised the Koreans haven't, either....
As far as using battery-powered buses for intercity service, well....I would have "range-anxiety", unless they were used on lines well short of their stated maximum range...... |
