I just finished watching a short documentary on one of the HBO channels about how the Brooklyn Dodgers became the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958.
There was a great deal of politics involved with the focus being on Walter O"Malley (the then owner of the Dodgers), and Robert Moses (New York City's one time 'master builder').
The disagreement came about because O"Malley wanted a new Dodger Stadium to replace the 67 year old Ebbets Field in Brooklyn while Moses insisted that it be built where Shea Stadium now stands in Queens (we know who won the battle!).
But, enough with boring details - the film clips of Brooklyn circa 40's and 50's were sensational!
102" 'Old Looks' abounded as did trackless trolley cars of the era along with Long Island Rail Road MU coaches from the teens (the round roof jobs) with interior shots.
HBO usually reruns everything at least five hundred time so keep a sharp eye out for this wonderful 'time tunnel' trip to the past!
