The tip-off of the location is the style of roof and the destination signs hanging at each platform telling where the buses were going. If I recall correctly the platform closest to the boardwalk (at the left) had a dispatcher's booth and the boarding point for Fordham Transit to Fordham Road, The Bronx, which I rode in the era 1946-1951 or so. At the time, someone explained to me that the dispatcher kept a count of how many passengers each company delivered. At closing time, for example after the Tuesday night fire works and the shutdown of the rides, he would hold the last bus until the departing passengers equaled the total counted at arrival.
On Flickr I also cannot find a bus photo, but a photo of the empty bus platforms is linked HERE. Other views on Flickr show that police cars are kept at the head of the first lane.

County Transportation was owned by the New Haven Railroad. This route brought people from Playland to the Rye train station two miles away. Another service provider was Bernacchia Brothers of Yonkers, now seasonal service Bee-Line 91. The last trip this year was September 2.

My pleasure to help you out.

As far as the 'Harrison Station' location; it was what the vendor has as a caption - I apologize for his error.

Your remark concerning ownership of County by New Haven Railroad ties the whole thing together in that all of County's buses that I showed were ex Connecticut Company that was also owned by New Haven - that's why the liveries weren't changed.

S-60 To Smith Haven Mall, take note on what may be a new find for Westchester;

Seen on a snowy day in February of 1978 at its company garage and readying for its next run is fleet # H-10 - a third generation 4500 series GM New Look built sometime in the seventies and operating for Hartsdale Bus Company, Inc. of Hartsdale, New York.

#H-10's lack of air conditioning (a rarity in the Northeast at the time) may mean that it was bought used and probably from a charter operator as evidenced by its single door operation.

However, not all of the company's New Looks were sans A/C as seen at the very left of the frame.

Hartsdale is a small affluent community within the town of Greenburgh in Westchester County with a population of 5,293 according to the 2010 census.

Last night I went though the production lists at omot.org. They haven't been updated in many years as evidenced by showing Double A Transportation of Rocky Hill, CT. as an active entity.

Mr. L. is right as usual that bus H-10 was bought second, or third hand.

No 45xx Fishbowl, transit or suburban had "H" as a prefix. "B" was most popular with users in NJ, CA, MI and Colonial Williamsburg.

Other letters use were A,C,U,W,R,Z in New Jersey. Q in Queen City, T in Oklahoma,D in Wyoming, S Eastman Kodak and 66B and 68B by the USAF at two bases.

Note; fleet number in the attached advertisement already on the roster.

In this 1959 Bus Transportation Magazine ad for Cities Service Oil Company (now CITGO) touting their exceptional and long lasting C-300 motor oil, we see Yonkers Railway Company (YRC) of that Westchester County city as a satisfied customer.

Seen in route on the # 9 line to North Yonkers is fleet # 151 - a 1953 45 passenger Mack modeled as a C-45-DT and one of fifty five likenesses numbered 101 to 155 delivered to YRC in increments between 1952 and 1953.

It was cold war time as evidenced by the 'CD' decal under the right headlight which meant that the bus would be made available to government officials in the event enemy attack.

As to where the bus was on its route is not noted but the fire hydrant (lower right of frame) is certainly trademark New York City.

S-60 To Smith Haven Mall, take note of addition to Club Transportation roster;

In this dismal looking photograph of a dismal looking bus, we see fleet #917 - a 1945 27 passenger Ford Transit modeled as a 59B and operating for the Club Transportation Corporation with offices at 45 Worth Street in Yonkers, New York.

#917 is seen heading to the Park Hill section of Yonkers on the company's #1 route.

Of note on the roof of our focus is the New York State required full time mechanical ventilation system with fresh air entering the cabin via intakes seen one on each side of the destination sign.

Enjoyed seeing the County buses on the previous page. I would like to add some info. Indeed County Transportation was owned by the New Haven RR and they stopped running buses under the County Transportation Corp name in December 1957. The first picture is indeed Playland in Rye,NY. My father was a driver on this line that ran from Playland to business district in Rye and then to Port Chester on Westchester Ave under the train bridge. County also ran a trip from Stamford to Port Chester and two local routes through Port Chester on local PC streets. Later on, sometime in the early 50s a route to Glenville Ct. to Port Chester was added and my father was moved from the Playland route to this route. He was on the Glenville route until the end of 1957 when they closed. The equipment was transferred to the Connecticut operating companies also owned by the New Haven RR. In 1958 some of the routes such as Playland and some of the local routes were started up by partners Hogan & Berry (a school bus operation up to that point) with a garage on Cedar St. in Rye and they named it County Bus Co. This operation ran until the early 70s I believe with used equipment bought from various used bus vendors. I spent my youth on those buses and remember every coach number well! I have included a photo of the last Glenville run in 1957.

Yesterday we saw I-95 signs for Mamaroneck and I recalled how Fordham Transit (or its other incarnations) for a while used front roller signs on which the destination Mamaroneck was abbreviated MAMA. The signs read something like NEW ROCHELLE & MAMA. I thought that was humorous, suggesting all sorts of ideas of where Mama might be.

In that era (early 1950's?) Fordham Transit's route from The Bronx to Westchester was basically a Boston Post Road line, north on U.S. Highway 1. Under Bee Line, the 60, 61, and 62 diverge off the Post Road in various ways.
