From the May 1972 Motor Coach Age (on eBay by the same seller Smile ), the following 110 FACCo buses were transferred from MaBSTOA to Westchester Street Transportation in March 1962: 1836-1838, 2200-2209, 2234-2269, 2272-2299, 2309-2321, 2324, 2340, 2390-2391, 2408-2411, 2429-2437, 2500.

S-60 To Smith Haven Mall,

Take note of Westchester Electric Railroad Company (WERRCO) and remove to this new flag Westchester Street Transportation (WST) 1950 Twin Coaches modeled as 45-S's numbered 200 to 219.

You'll have to follow the bouncing ball on this one!

WERRCO, the last independent traction operator in the county, was purchased by Third Avenue Railway System (TARS) in December of 1950 at which time the company ordered twenty Twin 45-S's to replace WERRCO equipment on its two remaining routes (New Rochelle and Mount Vernon to the 229th. St. subway station).

While the operation was under the supervision of TAR's WST, ownership, at least on paper and also noted forward of the front wheel well on the image of #208 below, remained as WERRCO to maintain an unexpired long term State Public Service Commission permit which would have obviated the need for a local franchise.

Only the twenty Twins fell into this category.

Also of interest in the photo and standing just behind #208 is a company service car in the form of a converted 1936 21 passenger White Motor Company model 706.

S-60 To Smith Haven Mall,

Regarding Westchester Street Transportation Company (WST);

Add a note to listed 1936 White's # 300 to 324 that at least one was modified as a Service Car as seen below (Maintenance Department # unknown).

Back in the twenties and thirties when buses had heavy steel frames some were saved from the shredder by conversion to service cars which performed a multitude of duties including emergency road calls, towing and plowing the routes in snow storms and many of these remodels lasted well into the fifties - unfortunately, today's buses just don't have the guts for that kind of a job!

Seen at its company facility in Mount Vernon, New York is just such a vehicle in the form of what was a 1936 21 passenger White Motor Company coach modeled as a 706 and originally one of 25 likenesses numbered 300 to 324 operating for Third Avenue Railway affiliate WST.

S-60 To Smith Haven Mall,

I see that you have Fordham Transit Co. listed as a Westchester operator but I believe that it was a Bronx outfit and I also believe (and I stand corrected) that Fordham had an affiliation with Reservoir Bus Lines - a house service in the same borough.

Please analyze the photos below beginning with the Fordham parlor car #21 (upper) and note the company address as 1350 Inwood Avenue, Bronx, New York

The center photo of Fordham Transit Company #65 and the lower photo of Reservoir Bus Lines #51 are identical in both Mack model (C-41-GT) and in livery scheme although the Reservoir was one of five (50 to 54) purchased in 1946 and the Fordham one of five (61 to 65) purchased in 1947.

I will say that the Fordham Mack was probably photographed in Westchester as evidenced by the lamp post in the background.

Is there something that I have missed concerning these companies?

Suggestion- Make a note next to the company name that they were located in the Bronx and ran in Westchester. I would rather that then the information disappearing. Just my personal opinion.

Perhaps what N4 Jamaica wrote in this regard on another thread may shed more light on the subject;

"I realize that memory can sometimes fool. However, I must categorically say that Fordham Transit provided service from Valentine Avenue and Fordham Road up Boston Post Road through New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, and Rye. That is how we got to Playland Rye during the late 1940's, 1951, and probably 1952.

The buses were black-and-white Macks, and the name was sometimes Reservoir, Fordham, and West-Fordham. As the company was forbidden to serve local Bronx patrons, I understand why S-60 placed the roster in Westchester Vintage. Thanks to Mr. L. for the photo of Parlor Car 21. I recall the ads for that service to the Catskills during the summer. I think the ads were in store windows".


It sounds to me like regardless of the fact that the company was based in the Bronx they only had limited franchising for New York City and, just as Bee Line (L.I.) did, they could drop off but not pick up in the city on the way in and pick up but not drop off in the city on the way out (to Westchester).

There is one more unsubstantiated fact about the Fordham clan which is that it was either owned or affiliated with the Hudson group in Northern New Jersey.

I think that in the final analysis Fordham was a Westchester operation and should remain as you have it listed but with the addition of the five 'Reservoir Bus Lines - 1946 Mack C-41-GT's numbered 50 to 54.
