Talk about advertising overkill!

It looks as though Madison Avenue's ad men hit the mark when they recruited Los Angeles transits as rolling billboards in hawking the 1956 Twentieth Century Fox release of 'Bus Stop' starring Marilyn Monroe.

I can understand using under belt line placards on fronts, rears and sides but I have never seen them on the roof or any part thereof before!

The bus, spotted in L.A.'s downtown civic center, is a 48 passenger 102 inch wide GM Coach Model TDH-4801 and one of 547 built between 1953 and 1958 specifically for California operators and features a slightly shorter wheelbases and rear overhang to meet that state's axle load limit requirement.

Apparently, trolley service had only recently been replaced on the route as evidenced by the 'Ride the Motor Buses' sign just forward of the rear door.

BTW; for you vintage Cadillac enthusiasts, that's an all new for 1950 Model 62 four door sedan parked center foreground.

For those who have difficulty in spotting a GM 4801 Model;

Note in photo above that there are four sets of paired windows between the front and rear doors whereas the 4500 and 5100 models have only three.

However, if you look very carefully at the pair just forward of the rear door you will also note that the aft part of that pair is shorter and manifests its width very clearly in the size of the standee glass above it.

BTW; the window configuration aft of the rear door is standard 4500.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'
