The Valley Breeze - Officials doing away with Pawtucket's bus hub
Quote: | It's one of the biggest draws to the city's downtown, says the city's chief executive, but for the wrong reasons.
The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority's bus hub at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center, located at the corner of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue, should be just a memory by April of 2012, according to Mayor Don Grebien.
City officials, intent on attracting new business to the area, say the hub has become too much of a hang-out spot, and it is preventing small business owners from locating on Main Street.
"One of the deterrents to new business is all these people just hanging around," Grebien told The Breeze.
Buses will still stop outside Pawtucket's Visitor Center, said Grebien, but it will be just that, a stop, not a comfortable place where people congregate for hours on end.
