|
|
Yesterday morning in Princeton, I saw an NJT 4002 working the 606 at Harrison and Nassau Sts. This Nova looked somewhat different than the many other NJT RTS's I've seen: it had a rooftop structure at the rear of the unit. Could it be a hybrid? I ask this only because the roster on Dave Mackey's excellent NJT Bus Fan Site shows a 4001 (a Nova 82VN hybrid), but does not show a 4002. |

There are three Nova RTS 82VN hybrids - 4001-4002-4003. Dave Mackey never updated that portion of the roster (he also has the D400N in the wrong spot in his MCI roster... they are actually the "skipped" 7800s, while the 8900s he has listed as D4000Ns are actually D4500s.) |

KC's right, those three are the Nova/ISE hybrids.
Interestingly, one of the men responsible for order-engineering at Nova and subsequently sales at Millennium is now high-up at ISE. I'd wondered where he jumped ship to... |

Thanks for that info, guys!
I'm used to seeing NYCT/MTAB Orion VII HEV's with their prominent, forward-mounted rooftop battery tubs.
Conversely, I'm used to seeing NJT's many Nova RTS's with clean rooftops.
Do these hybrid units have Cummins engines? |

Yes, they're Cummins motors; IIRC, they're ISBs. |

From the ISE website - only visual difference between this and the last batch of diesel RTSes is the roof compartments
