Here's a rare photo taken in 1915 of a New York City Fire Department 'High Pressure' hose truck manufactured by the Four Wheel Drive (FWD) Corporation and standing in front of Engine Company 72 which was then in downtown Manhattan.
FWD was an early manufacturer of heavy equipment which included a fire apparatus line that FDNY was partial to probably because they performed well especially in heavy snow conditions - I remember that when I was a kid growing up in Queens, Ladder 151 on Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills had an FWD tractor.
Engine Company 72 eventually moved to Tremont Avenue in the Bronx and was fortunate enough to finally acquire some updated equipment as can also be seen below.
