|
|
As a follow on to the previous piece on the Divisional set up of the NFTA, we have the following: NIAGARA FALLS- for all routes that service the city of Niagara Falls; LOCKPORT- for the route that services the city of Lockport. For Buffalo, there is FRONTIER DIVISION, located at Military Road and Kenmore Avenue,COLD SPRING DIVISION, at Main and Michigan, the only former IRC car barn still in use as a bus garage by the NFTA, and Geisel-Wolford, located on Babcock Street, just off of Broadway, replacing the former IRC car barn at Broadway and Bailey, which is still standing with references to the IRC visiblt on the wall facing Broadway east of Bailey Avenue. Geisel-Wolford is a smaller facility than the Broadway-Bailey barn had been, since the total NFT fleet numbers approximately 250-265 buses versus the nearly 500-600 buses NFTA Metrobus began operation with way back in 1974. Some of the Old look GM's and a few of the Macks lingered on in service as late as 1980 as I remember riding at least one of each by that late date. |
