1:
Imagine the LIRR building an all-new underground line in Queens, serving areas not convenient to the subways.
2:
Think of the IND pushing even deeper into Queens, and penetrating into Nassau.
Note the distinct "Eye-En-Dee" feel of this long-abandoned station; the remaining signs/tiles indeed echo the "Eye-En-Dee" of that era............

Ironically, despite Mr. "Moh-ziz' " attitudes towards mass transit being akin to Indiana Jones' towards snakes, it was he who had that section (and the East New York station of the "El-Eye-Double-Are") built, which may explain why the tiling was so reminiscent of the "Eye-En-Dee." This was like, what, the seventh variant of that lettered and numbered tiling I've counted? I think that no-one could see the trains running in that area may've been why he had it built that way. |

Now, that was dang well TOTALLY OUT OF CHARACTER for the illustrious Mr. "Moh-ziz", seeing how anti-transit he was. 
In Stan Fischler's "UPTOWN, DOWNTOWN", he included proposals that the mTA was then discussing:
"......,a superexpress line in Queens connecting Forest Hills and Long Island City, feeding into the new 63rd Street tunnel.............."
".....a line to serve southeast Queens, using the LIRR's Atlantic Branch ROW......."
"......a line along the Long Island Expressway to serve northeast Queens......"
So many missed opportunities...........

Further........
Recall that the "Eye-En-Dee's" 6th Avenue line opened in 1940; it would not be until 1948 when new "Eye-En-Dee" stations were opened on the Fulton line.
Had the IND's "Second system" come to reality, I wonder if the new stations would have been "signed" in the same style of either the 6th Avenue line, or a la Euclid Avenue...........

Curious............
Did the "Tee-Yay" ever contemplate the purchase of single-door Fishbowl suburbans for express service to "The Isle of Staten"? (not sure if this had een touched upon earlier)
Also, did any of the buses uses in "Vee-Zee" express service have cushioned seats, or well all seats plastic, a la "transit"?
As always, appreciate info..........

Of course, nowadays the "H&M" in that area has a wholly different meaning. Surprised PATH didn't cover that up when they took over "da tubes" in 1962. |

The "Tee-Yay" didn't even consider acquiring "Bison" for express "soivice," so how would they have considered "suboibans"? The first true express buses in terms of seating were from amongst the T6H-5305 order of late 1968 which was the first time the 'M' was on the front side of the buses, doing away altogether with the script atop the passenger windows. So apparently they had the "harder" seating when the R8X was first inaugurated in '65 (all with Fishbowls, no doubt). |

Thanks for the info.
One thing I DID know for "soitan", was that the "Tee-Yay" was NOT going to assign "Kramdens" to the new express ryns, especially that they were then in their "let's make our image all shiny and new" mode........

Funny thing about the "Pattons"*; I never seemed to think of them as "speedsters"; those Your's Truly knew, way back in the 60s, seemed to lumber and swagger along, like a cocky, old-time prizefighter.
Would have loved to have seen Fishbowl "suboibans" and/or "Bison" is classic "Tee-Yay" attire...........

*I do recall reading, years ago, of a retired "See-Tee-Yay" driver who was quoted as saying that:
".....those old Macks were our best buses for getting through the snow......" (well, they were TANKS, after all!
Also:
".....they (the MACKS) got up heat real good on cold mornings....."
