And, now.....the CRUCIAL test............

With a BLIZZARD now forecast for the area, beginning tomorrow itwill be QUITE interesting to see how the "BINOs","Slinkies","Brontos","JETER-bugs:, "Blue McAdoos" and newfangled "Staten Island Rattlers" will lbe handling "da white stuff", this time around.

Something is telling me that, from the weather reports I've been hearing, that there will be total system-wide shutdowns in both "Noo Yawk" and "Joisey"........... Sad

We shall see what we will see, I guess......

Latest..........

Just "hoid" that NJT will be halting all bus and light rail service beginning at 4AM tomorrow morning; all rail service will be shut down at 2PM Sunday afternoon.

As "The Isle of Great Length" is supposed to REALLY get clobbered, a total shut down of the "El-Eye-Double-Are" would not surprise me..........

I'm now also thinking of possible flooding/storm surge at Tottenville, Coney Island, and at South Ferry............

Am now thinking of service suspension on lines in open cuts (West End, Sea Beach, Brighton, et al); also, the elevated lines........

..........indeed, it is going to get pretty interesting, later today, regarding the buses, subways, and commuter rails .

Again I'm focusing on lines running through open cuts, on elevated trackage, the SIR (flooding/storm surges),"the tubes", and the "El-Eye-Double-Are"..........

Update (MONDAY):

LIRR and NJT are totally shut down.

BEE-LINE buses ditto.

METRO-NORTH running on modified schedules, with delays.

In my area of "Joisey",we got hammered with at least 15 inches.

"The Island of Great Length" really took a brutal beating..........

Further.

All PATH service is out between NWK and JSQ (a holiday for the "Blue McAdoos")

The SI Ferry is also not running (now, when those HUGE boats are not running, you KNOW things are pretty rough)

Have heard nothing on the SIR.

Gonna be an uphill battle, indeed, to get everything back up and running........ Sad

"Isle of Staten" buses...........

NO bus service in the borough; I've read that there is also the issue of "BINOs" that ended up snowbound.........

"NYO"

*NOT surprisingly, I know that the MTA removed all "Slinkies'" from service, replacing them with 40 footers....gee, I wonder why?

ALSO:

(Eyewitness News at 4 showed footage of a group of snowbound MTA buses in Port Richmond)

LIRR news........

The LIRR will be resuming service on six branches Tuesday morning at 4AM; welcome news indeed for the thousands of "Dashing Dans" left high and dry, the past two days....

"NYO"

(Still no word on when NJT trains and buses will again be running; only the Newark Light Rail [ex-City Subway] and River Line [Trenton] are currently operating).......

NJT update.........

NJT buses will resume operation at 4AM; trains will resume operations (on a President's Day schedule) schedule) at 5AM; however, the Raritan Valley Line (ex-CNJ mainline) and NJ Coast Line (ex-NY&LB) will remain suspended until further notice.

Also, some NEC trains might be skipping local stops in the AM......

Hmmm . . . sounds like these snows were too much for the "Rattlers" to take, no? . . . if it's just flurries, they're okay, but this? . . .

As to the S.I. Ferry, sounds like this class of boats are somewhat lesser, in terms of endurance, than their predecessors. Wonder what the older fleets went through, for example, in the 1947 blizzard . . .
