The lone survivor........
The last remaining PSNJ car house/garage is at Market Street in Paterson (formerly the PASSAIC Division)
This classical-looking and stately structure, dating to the 1890s/1900s, also once served streetcars and ASVs.
It is still used by NJT buses today, and is siimilar in style to the recentl -demolished UNION CITY garage/car house (closed c.-1995)
Now a landmark, the echoing facility i bow being upgraded to facilitate electric buses..........

Also......
The historic Market Street garage is currently "home base" to 13 "local" bus routes, served by NABIs.
New 40-foot battery-electric NEW FLYERS will soon bere replacing these buses ............

These historic photos (c.-1937) show the storage yard of PSNJ's Market Street carhouse/garage)in Paterson; the remaining streetcar lines that were based here were converted to buses/ASVs in late 1938.
ASVs also used this facility until 1948...........

| Let's hope the new battery buses don't catch fire and burn down this historic facility! |

Take notice, PSNJ never had that issue with the streetcars and ASVs(!!)
I took several photos here back in the early 1990s; the streetcar tracks were still in place inside the building!

When the Union City (then West Hoboken) car house opened in the 1890s, it was bounded on the north by a large outdoor storage yard.
Just prior to WW1, an extension of the car house was built, being erected over the outdoor storage tracks,
the original turreted building (known in later years to PS men as the "Big House") was used for heavy repairs, major electrical work, painting, etc)
These late-1930s photos show this extension, fronting New York Avenue, bordering 29th Street; you are looking northwest here.........

By the 1940s,"GREENVILLE" (Jersey City) was the only PS car house/garage on the HUDSON Division to havea yard; over the years, this busy facility served several streetcar lines, as well as ASVs and buses.
After 1949,"GREENVILLE" was an all-bus facility.
It was in operation into the NJT years; later, it was closed and demolished......

This photo appears to have been taken in 1949, just prior to the last HUDSON Division streetcars being converted to buses; the location is adjacent to the "GREENVILLE" car house/garage.
The bus on the left is one of the many 4509s PS purchased after the War.........

| Sounds like some fascinating places back in the day. At least one still stands even though what's going on isn't as interesting as it once was. |

Cyberider:
In Newark (ESSEX Division), the largest car house/garage was "ROSEVULLE"; it was flanked by two large yards, and also featured a waiting room, newsstand, and lunch counter.
It also featured extensive carpentry/electrical shops.
ASVs (until 1948) and a number of busy car lines (as well as bus routes) were based here.
Last streetcars to use this facility were deadheading cars of the "7 CITY SUBWAY"; this operation ended in 1953.
NJT used this garage until the early 1990s; it was later demolished.
This was also the last surviving PS ESSEX Division car house/garage............
