Interesting.......

For the 1939 "Woild's Fair", the INTERBOROUGH "poichased" a small groupl of new cars (hardly "modern" rolling stock that would catch the eye of Fairgoers!) Wink

The BMT rebuilt old wooden El cars into the now-iconic "Q": units, but, again, no new equipment was purchased for the Fair.

The IND "made do" with their "everyday" rolling stock, which, of course, were still virtually new (if quite utilitarian).........

And although the "Bee-Em-Tee" or "Eye-En-Dee" didn't directly go to "the Fair," it could be argued that the new "Are Toity-Too's" (a.k.a. "Brightliners") that made their first appearance towards the end of the 1964-65 WF's "foist" season was as much "splashy" as the "Eye-Are-Tee's" "Blueboids." (Alas, the "Are Toity-Ates" ["Brightliner Wannabes"] that were ordered for the "Eye-En-Dee" in the Fair's last months, didn't come here till it was long all over.)

W.B.:

One thing has long puzzled me..........

Why didn't the "Bee-Em-Tee" use the sleek, silvery BUDD-built "Zephyr" on "soitan" special runs to the "Woild's Fair", to better provide that glittering "World Of Tomorrow" aura so much associated with the Fair Question

History repeating itself.........

And, in 1964, just like back in 1939, ONLY the "Eye-Are-Tee" purchased NEW rolling stock for "soivice" to the "Woild's Fair".

I've often thought about BUDD building the '64 WF cars; I can easily see them resembling the 1960 Market-Frankford "Almond Joys", down in Philly...........

Even without the twin signboxes once so commonplace here, the 1960 "Almond Joys" featured ends that indeed would have been right at home here in "Noo Yawk"........

An interesting thought.......

Imagine if the "R-33/36" World's Fair cars had been been built by BUDD (picture Philly's "Almond Joys" with PICTURE windows)........ Wink

They'd've likely had the same fluting as the R-32's. After all, the interiors were alike . . .

W.B.:

And, recall, that the "foist" use fluted sides on "Noo Yawk" rolling stock was the BUDD "Zephyr", hitting the "Bee-Em-Tee" rails in 1934........

Thought of you with this early 1900s photo, taken at Park Row........

The Park Row terminal appears here to be undergoing one of its many expansions; note, especially the spindly (uncovered) "toid" rail........

The whole track layout looks spindly, if you ask me . . .

W.B.:

That track layout indeed looks quite spindly (and convoluted); as the platform area itself looks quite "constricted".

This photo seems to suggest the days BERFORE the station was expanded, from when it served only cable trains (and yet again expanded) to handle both longer trains and heavier crowds.

Too, note only THREE tracks are in place........

In this photo (circa-1912?) note how greatly the Park Row station has been expanded; note, also, the IRT kiosks and "NY RAILWAYS" streetcars............

Possibly a publicity shot (1920s), we have here (at Park Row) a very uncharacteristic deserted view, with a train of "C"-types on the left; note, also, the more modern incandescent lighting............
