The Bakerloo Tube was originally a Yerkes line.

The station at Piccadilly Circus was/is unique, in that the end of a reversing crossover occupies part of the station tunnel.

This photo, which dates to 2003, shows a train made up of (since retired) 1972 Stock.......

For many years, Underground "engineer's trains" (MOW) have been hauled by thee stalwart little battery-electric locomotives; they are far from handsome, it is true, but are indeed fascinating in their own right.

These distinctive little brutes have changed very little in design over the years.......

Here's one of the old Underground battery locomotives, today preserved at the LT Museum (note the restored vintage buses on the right)

To say these rugged old locos were TOUGH in appearance (and performance) is indeed an understatement.....

The low-slung "squat" dimensions of deep-level Tube stock is most apparent in this shot of a train of restored 1960 Cravens Stock on an excursion run (using two locomotives on one of Great Britain's many "heritage" railways)

Note that this train is painted red, to match the 1938 Stock; a dead give-away that this train is NOT 1938 stock is the lack of marker lights (as I'd mentioned previously, the 1938 Stock were the last new trains to be delivered with marker lights).......

The complex interlocking of "points" (switches) at the above-ground Piccadilly line Tube station at Arnos Grove (the train is made up of 1973 Stock)

This interesting scene from 1997 is quite reminiscent of a complex LIONEL pike; note the British-style "conductor" rails, then standard.....

West Ham (sub-surface) District line, 2013.

Here, the sub-surface District line trains ("D" stock here) run alongside the main-line electrics; this would have been atkin to the PRR/H&M/PATH "joint service" trains running alongside the electrified PRR tracks, west of Journal Square....

Thankfully, In London, a large number of the original Victorian/Edwardian Underground station buildings are still in use today; this is the station building at East Ham, in 2007.

The bus seen here was a then-new ALEXANDER (ALX400)-bodied TRIDENT; these double-deckers were low-floor models......

This old (undated) photo shows a vintage train of Circle Line (sub-surface) CO/CP stock (note the flaring skirting) at the Gloucester Rd. station, before the station was covered over......

This handsome (and historic) "METROPOLITAN & DISTRICT RAILWAYS" sign at the entrance to the S. Kensington station still recalls the long-ago days on the early Underground......

A train of deep-level 1992 Tube stock at Holland Park (CENTRAL line), 2009.

Note the rubber safety barriers between the cars, used in place of pantograph gates or spring coils......

Moorgate, an open cut section of the "MET", back in 1951 (note the gutted, bomb-damaged buildings on the upper left, grim reminders of WW2)

Here we see a train of "F" stock, with their distinctive owl-eye windows (echoing PRR/LIRR's MP-54's and the PRR/H&M MP-38's!).....

Here we see the long-shuttered signal-box on the "MT" at Liverpool Street.

This charming old structure easily could have been located along any main-line or branch anywhere in Great Britain, back in the day.....

A rare photo from 1946, showing a "mixed train" of elderly DISTRICT stock (some dating back to 1911) at Kensington.

These wonderfully-antiquated cars certainly looked more "American" than most of their Underground counterparts......

This nostalgic view from the 1960's shows a train of old sub-surface "Q" Stock, working on the "MET" at Farringdon.

Also, note that the front end of the lead car somewhat resembles the BMT "D"-type Triplex units.......
