Here's a great old photo for you northern Queens trolley aficionados to ponder.
Taken in November of 1931 on Vernon Boulevard at 50th. Avenue in Long Island City, we see a trolley car with what appears to be a derailed rear truck virtually blocking boulevard traffic as can be seen by a line up of vehicles including one bus waiting to squeeze through.
Car# 8326 was a 'Peter Witt' type DT/DE/AR/CD (the 'DE' meaning double ended) built in the mid twenties by J. G. Brill of Philadelphia, Pa. and was one of over 500 likenesses operating for the Brooklyn and Queens Transit Company division of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT).
Peter Witt cars were a style named for their designer which utilized a pay as you leave arrangement with a conductor seated in the middle of the car just forward of the center exit doors.
