Green has 10001 GMC RTS
Jamaica has 3865 TMC RTS

Liberty has 3006 MCI Classic
Command has 4904 CNG TMC RTS


What buses would you add on and why?

I would add MTA Bus 5887 because it was the last classic to run in NYC.

I agree, I would add 5887 for sure and put in:

JBL 3001
A TMC or Nova RTS (both would be good I guess)
TMC RTS from TCC that had the front angle lightning stripe.
New Flyer C40LF
MCI Coach (most likely the 9/11 one)
New Flyer Artic
JBL GMC RTS (at least that would be a true JBL bus)
Orion V CNG (One from CP returned to original livery and the other from JG)
MCI Classic from NYBS, TCC, Command
And when the times comes, an Orion VII

I really can't participate here because I have little familiarity with the present MTA fleet and only memories of past models.

However, I would say that any well rounded transit museum should have at least one representative specimen of every model ever purchased so that future generations can have a company 'history on wheels'.

What's really unfortunate is that the PBL's never had the foresight to save some of their interesting and colorful old buses which may now only be enjoyed in pictures.

Not a bad list, but it's unfortunately probably too large. I'm sure indoor storage space is at a premium.

Must-have's for the museum fleet would be a NYCT Orion V, a New Flyer articulated and the 9/11 MCI. I would add in an Orion V CNG restored to Queens Surface livery. And of course an Orion VII when the time comes - perhaps #6365 given its historic status as the first production Orion VII hybrid.

Well I know that this is a big list but keep in mind. I'm just imagining this and wishing that the NYTM will use or at least listen to my idea about an NYTM bus depot which can be a defunct bus depot and basically serve as what the current museum is for trains but for buses.

I think the last time we discussed a permanent indoor museum for the buses on that 'other' site, Floyd Bennet Field was mentioned prominently as being ideal.

In addition to the many empty structures that might be available with parking galore, the Q35 goes right by making it very easy to get to by public transportation.

Has anyone checked out this possibility yet? (I would do it myself, but I'm three thousand miles away at the moment!).

BTW; Do you think the Port Authority might be receptive to giving us the use of the old Green Line garage in Cornell Park - if it's unaccupied at present? (just another idea).

The Cornell Park garage is definetly empty at this time. I have reason to believe the Port Authority will not be doing anything with that building for a while. There are other building across the street from it that have been empty for at least 6 years.

Maybe we can convince the the MTA to do something. I have sent emails suggesting these ideas and some but I have been always given the response similar to "my supervisor is on vacation and I will let him know as soon as he comes back.

From what I have heard, at least 2 more RTS's have joined the museum fleet, along with an Orion V and Orion VI

It looks as though this conversation has been going on for years!

Is there a Green Line New Look still in existence somewhere?

That would be great! especially if it were to be redone in its original livery.

And, is there any forward movement on finding a home for the whole fleet?

When this all started, I emailed Jim Lehrer of the PBS News Hour thinking that he might have some influence with the city being that he is a devout bus fan. Unforfunately, he never replied.

I would argue against JBL# 3001. Not only because of space limitations, but this bus never ran in revenue service for JBL. It was kept as a special events bus and was orginailly delivered to Rex Bus Lines in New Jersey. Other than once wearing the JBL livery, what is its significance to the NYC transit scene?

Hopefully the Orion V is one of the 100-series buses - that order was significant for breaking the RTS's decade-long stranglehold on new TA bus orders.
