What route would the two "Soiface" buses have been running on, in that c-1949 photo at 242nd & Broadway?

["SURFACE TRANSPORTATION"]

Likely Bx-10 and M-100.

There were no doubt a few such instances in Manhattan between November 1946 and June-July 1947 that were photographed "at the time."

I remember a few such pics taken along Broadway in late 1946. One week the streetcars were still traveling along "the Great White Way," the next buses were crisscrossing up and down. Some pics of the former were misdated 1943 owing to a billboard advertising the Jane Russell film The Outlaw. But the films playing in the "thee-YAY-ters" told the actual story of the dating (including one film co-starring former "Miss Subways" Mona Freeman).

W.B.:

Like yourself, "thee-ATE-er" marquees and posters are indeed instrumental in dating undated historic transit-related photos.

TARS, indeed, was NOT at all slow in scrapping the old wooden cars (including their trademark convertibles) from 1946 onwards. Sad

Recall some rolling stock (those equipped with trolley poles) ended their days "up north" to Westchester, where they ran until the early 1950s, thus pulling down the final curtain on TARS operations..........

This photo (taken at BMT's 36th Street yards) dates to 1960; the right background should be of interest......... Wink

It's "soitanly" on the eve of the "Kramdens" getting the "Tee-Yay" script on top of the sides, and ad racks popping up where the agency's logo of the time used to be.

W.B.:

Good observation! Wink

IMHO, I think that the "Tee-Yay" was then rubbing its itchy hands in glee, thinking of all the additional revenue that would soon be coming in, via the exterior ad racks on the buses! Wink

The "NYCTA" script above the windows would, indeed, make those "Kramdens" look even more stylish! Very Happy

*Interesting, regarding the "Lo-Vs" transferred to the "Bee-Em-Tee" in the late 1950s, having their old metal destination plates replaced with equally-outdated ones, courtesy of scrapped BRT/BMT elevated rolling stock.......

There's quite a bit of nostalgic "eye candy" to savor in this 1940s TARS view, taken at Broadway & 116th Street (note the bus at far right)..........

A lot of TARS/"Soiface" activity, here, in this long-ago scene (Southern Boulevard & Westchester Avenue, circa-1948)........

Yeah, wouldn't that have been a "Patton"? Or some other bus that was a bus and not the various incarnations we see today?

W.B,:

You might be correct, here, but I'm also thinking of, perhaps, an older-model WHITE....regardless,, a real BUS and NOT a giant, mutated insect or oversized, rolling milk carton....(!!) Razz

It is obvious that "Soiface" indeed had quite a diverse fleet, especially in the earlier years.........
