WHITES..............
Postwar, DE CAMP's fleet was made up primarily of Old Look "suboibans" and ACF-BRILLS ("Brill-Boas")
In 1956, however, the company "inherited" a number of WHITE 798s when they took over ATLANTIC TRANSPORTATION (aka "Garden State Lines")
DE CAMP sold these buses in 1960, when the first Fishbowls entered service..........

'lectric buses update............
Heard on Eyewittness News (7) and 1010 WINS that the "Em-Tee-Yay" is already using "CP" $$$$$$$ to purchase new 'lectrric buses........yaaaaawwwwn
Have heard nothing so far about the oft-touted extension of the SAS up to 125th; let's see what happens here.
Just wondering now if the ecology-minded "Em-Tee-Yay" has thought about WHERE and HOW to dispose of spent batteries from the new " 'lectric" fleet, when the time comes? (just toss 'em in the recycling bin?)
NO WAY that these new "Go Greenie Juice Boxes" will last even HALF as long as the faithful old "Gee-Ems", ""Dangerfields", and "Pattons" that we all once knew and loved so well.......progress? Meh!

Not to mention whether Con Edison has enough electricity to charge them all. |

IMHO, I truly believe that, in many instances, the CONS outnumber the PROS, regarding the day-tp-day operations of the MTA's new "juice buggies" (over 200 have now been purchased., according to the news report I heard earlier)
Even though trolley buses required overhead wiring, at least there were no issues regarding the disposal of spent batteries, and their short- and long-term effect on the already-ailing enviorment............

All the proponents of EV's seem to forget that. |

What I find quite ironic is that, way back in the day, when no one thought that diesel fumes were harmful, how hundreds of "eco-friendly" non-polluting streetcar and trolleybus systems in the United States and Canada were ruthlessly scrapped, all in favor of "modern" and "efficient" diesel buses, vehicles not dependent on rails nor wires.
PSNJ pulled the plug on their last ASV lines in 1948; Brooklyn saw its last trolleybus lines replaced by new Fishbowls in 1960...............

NYO,
Gee, I thought Diesel fumes smelled good when I was a kid, especially when they were coming out of an Old Look bus!
As for changing opinions on what's the best way to power vehicles, I guess it's whatever someone can make the most money from after getting the government to cooperate on a propaganda program. I wonder if Chicago is going to follow suit after the problems the electric car owners had last winter during their cold spell? |

I used to LOVE the smell of diesel exhaust from Old Looks, WHITES, and MACKs (ANY bus, for that matter!)
I also loved the gasoline smell from the REAL antiques that were still running in my area, back in my long-ago childhood days!
Recall that PSNJ's ASV fleet were all "gas-electrics"; only the experimental "D900" of 1950 (a modified GM 4509) was the lone PSNJ ASV to utilize a diesel engine, when not running under wire...............

You're telling me?!
And that's with tops that, on the front, look like imposters of old "Batwing" Fishbowls, and the string you pull to signify a stop request. And you know the old saying about dressing up a (rhymes with bird) . . . it's still a you-know what (euphemism for "#2"). |

W.B.:
RIGHT ON, MY FRIEND!
These new, hi-tech "juice buggies" are (mark my words) going to prove more trouble than they are worth, after not too long a period in revenue service.
Ahhhh, but then again, what else can you expect from a "BINO"?
Recall, back in the day, how we all thought that "See-En-Gee"-powered buses were the LAST WORD" in "go green" transit coaches?
Ahh, how "knave" we all were, back then! (thanks, Bugs!)

"Juice Buggy" jargon...............
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proterra_ZX5
What I find interesting is the photo showing a "juice buggy" being "juiced up"; quite awhile ago, I saw an 9online) 1950s photo of an experimental German transit bus being charged; the "re-charging tower" in the vintage photo looked quite a lot like the one seen in the Wikipedia article.
IMHO, the ONLY " 'lectric buses" Your's Truly is interested in are vintage trolleybuses........

Just thinking..........
Am now just wondering just how quickly the "Em-Tee-Yay's incoming hi-tech "juice buggies" will become obsolete when YET ANOTHER breed of "new and improved" vehicles arrives on the ever-changing scene?
Ya just gotta wonder..............
