While searching for other bus photos, I was VERY fortunate indeed to come across this rare portrait of an O&B "Buffalo" in the yard in back of the Fairview garage, on Anderson Avenue (Your's Truly has lived just north of this garage [about a 15-minute walk] for nearly 50 years!)
See:
https://globalmapss.blogspot.com/2020/05/nj-transit-maplewood-garage.html
(the photo caption here is incorrect; this is the former O&B garage in Fairview (Anderson Avenue), NOT the Maplewood garage.
Note the rows of handsome Old Looks, patiently awaiting their next runs into the "Port-of-Authority".
The "Buffalo" is displaying the sign for the "7" (last stop, Palisades Amusement Park, which closed after the 1971 season)
The site of the famed old park (now totally obliterated by towering condo units) is just a few blocks east of me!
Man, does this photo really bring back some wonderful old memories!

Nice photo! I'd be happy to ride the featured bus or any of those in the background. Real buses! |

The "Buffalo"............
As I've stated elsewhere, the GM "Buffalo" was not only the very last intercity coach built by GM, (and, also, the last GM-built bus for GREYHOUND) it was also a bus (like the earlier 4104 and 4106) that also found a solid niche in the fleets of a number of New Jersey suburban carriers, including:
PUBLIC SERVICE
ORANGE & BLACK
DE CAMP
INTER-CITY
SUBURBAN
MANHATTAN LINES
SHORTLINE, also, rostered the distinctive "Buffalo", as did LIBERTY.
And, also like the 4104 and 4106, the "Buffalo" always proved invaluable in charter work.
Once commonplace in New Jersey, these sleek and handsome buses have now been gone for decades; I'm most fortunate to have ridden on these now-classic buses, way back in my much younger years.......

Here's a particularly nostalgic photo from 1972, just to the west of the PABT...........

PSNJ/TNJ had a good-sized fleet of "Buffalos", which were used in both longer-haul "suburban" runs as well as in charter work.
The suburban Fishbowls parked in the lot on the right were owned by "RED & TAN", for decades, a very busy and well-known suburban operator (today, the company has been absorbed by conglomerate "COACH USA")
The bus lot itself has long since been built over.............
