W.B.:

Thanks for the info..

By 1973, were any of the ex-FACL "Jetson"* Fishbowls still running to for "Em-Tee-Yay", or had they already been retired?

What about the ex-SURFACE "Jetsons"?

All ex-FACL and Surface "Jetsons" (even the 10 A/C units) were retired by mid-'73 . . . once T6H-5309A's 4860-4819 arrived at, and were assigned to, Kingsbridge depot where those early "Jetsons" were all based in their last years. (I think the latest dating I saw of any of those first "Fishbowls" to take to the streets of Manhattan were early '73 or so.)

But I wonder if the "Em-Tee-Yay" figured they'd make more money sending 'em to "the crusher" rather than let them see a few more years of service under Avenue B. The photos taken at places like Fresh Pond are testament to this. Plus what I'd put up in the past.

W.B.:

Thanks, as always, for your input.

Yup, the "Em-Tee-Yay" was probably going to see more $$$$ in their coffers sending these still-serviceable buses to the scrappers, instead of selling them for further service elsewhere.....Sad

I'm pretty sure a few of the old "Hudson County "indies" might have purchased a few; likewise, the a few of the last "Shemans" ('stoa"), which easily could have rolled on for at least several more years.

Ahhh, corporate mentality........... Rolling Eyes

Several of these vintage Fresh Pond scenes are of particular interest..........

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?99023 (note area between BMT ramps is totally empty; note, also, the old line poles, not seen in later views)

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?117663 (this rare circa-1948 photo is particularly interesting; here we see an ancient B&QT convertible on a fan trip, posing between the BMT ramps; note also the double-arm line poles)

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?2099 (note there are two Fishbowls with no script above the windows, in this 1971 photo)

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?158291 (this photo also dates to 1971; note the a/c Fishbowl along with the other stored buses)

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?150774 (this 1970 photo is particularly interesting; note the "Dangerfields")

Here are a few more interesting "contrasting" views taken between the BMT ramps at Fresh Pond, through the years.........

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?35309 (in this 1960s-era view, the area between the ramps is devoid of buses)

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?152698 (in this 1970 photo, note telltale marks in the snow, indicating where buses had been parked)

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?6781 (undated photo, circa-1970; note "Shermans" only)

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?2099 (now, in this 1971 photo, the area between the El ramps is jammed with Fishbowls)

It is interesting to note that only ONE nycsubway.org photo (link posted in previous post), shows "Dangerfields" at this location; too, it is obvious that retired "Pattons" were not parked between the El ramps ................

"Pattons" at Fresh Pond, 1968..........

I just came across this rare view a few moments earlier; note the rows of recently-retired "Pattons" in the background; oddly none of the photos whose links I've posted here show any retired "Pattons" awaiting the trip to the scrapyard, in the narrow area between the BMT El ramps..............

Here's an interesting aerial view of Fresh Pond yards in 2020, just four years back; note that, among the buses lined up to the right of the yard, there are no "Torpedoes" to be seen (look closely, though; that MIGHT be a lone "Torpedo" parked between the ramps)

Another 1969 view at Fresh Pond, showing a train of soon-to-be retired Standards (aka "Brooklyn Battleships"), with rows of already-retired "Pattons" in the background, silently awaiting their fate............

Here is another interesting view at Fresh Pond, which also appears to have been taken in 1969...............

In this 1975 view, we see a train of graffiti-splattered "R-42s" climbing the ramp at Fresh Pond; in the area between the inbound and outbound ramps, only a few forlorn Fishbowls are to be seen..............
