Rare old station signs like this recall the long-lost era when so many long-defunct (and forgotten) regional carriers once crisscrossed our nation (this beautiful 1930s sign reminds me of the late Jim Lehrer!) Wink

This nostalgic (circa-1960) GREYHOUND depot scene is indeed a slice of America as it was, sixty-odd years back............

Here's a particularly handsome sign for "PEERLESS STAGES" (the bus recalls the hulking YELLOW PD/PG models of the early 1940s)..............

traildriver:

Thanks for this info; I was not aware of this development.

I've always considered VanHool an "exotic" bus, as they are, indeed, not to be seen in my area.

I DID, however, some years ago, every once in awhile see an older model VanHool on a charter passing through town; oddly, the bus had no company identification or number displayed whatsoever, so I have no idea what company it might have been operating for.

I still refer to it as the "mystery bus".

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the company.....

If my memory serves me correctly, the "mystery" VanHool I had previously mentioned was a Model T-900 (I know that "WESTERN TRAILWAYS" once operated several of this type, back in later 1990s/early 2000s)

VERMONT TRANSIT also operated similar VanHools............

In 1975, VERMONT TRANSIT was acquired by GREYHOUND, and became a subsidiary line...........

Here's a nostalgic picture of a VERMONT TRANSIT 4106; note "SCENICRUISER SERVICE" emblazoned above the windows.............

Just received my DVD copy of Glen Campbell's 1970 film "NORWOOD"; there are a number of scenes featuring CONTINENTAL Eagles (exterior and interior shots!)

There is even a brief glimpse of the "Port-Of-Authority's original 8th Avenue facade, as a bonus!

In one scene, one bus is signed "JACKSONVILLE" (North Carolina); in another, "TEXARKANA" (another scene has an EAGLE signed "MEMPHIS")

One nighttime scene (MAGNIFICENT seeing the illuminated "CONTINENTAL TRAILWAYS" lettering beneath the rear windows!) shows an EAGLE pulling up to a corner stop; on a pole there is a yellow metal sign, with the map of the United States, with "TRAILWAYS" emblazoned across it, and "BUS STOP" beneath it.

In one lunch counter/coffee shop scene, in the background, is a large cutout of a uniformed CONTINENTAL hostess holding a sign behind the counter.

And those harmonic EAGLE horns.....and the tantalizing "HIIIIssssss" of the air brakes..........aaahh, the sweet nostalgia! Wink

Here's one timeless scene from 1970's "NORWOOD", showing Glen's outbound "EAGLE", with a suburban Fishbowl just behind (note the "Buffalo" taking a brief respite from daily chores on the left!) Wink
